Stats are off the scales nowadays but the footballs are not the same quality so players score more goals…they wizz all over the place

Top players are in teams which are far far better than the rest of the league they're in as well, like Lewandowski at Bayern. He scores for fun because most bang average players would find it easy to score in that side.

Not saying he's bang average, for the record.

plus an attackers path to goal is protected by the ref nowadays more so than back in the day where you was getting chopped to bits on your run.

hence why todays players are soft rolly bowt ****s

Just came across this clip, some nice goals there but it made me think, was gazza really that good or just bigged up by the British fans.?

I ask because that show reel is nice but I don't see best player in the world there personally.

So gazza = was the real deal?

Or just flavour of the month for a while.?

Its before my time so all I hear about gazza is how good he was yet all us younger fans mostly think of him as a drunk bum.

19 in all comps = smallish numbers these days no?

Always hard to measure the ability of a player after passing decades, but I will say this, we should have won Italia 90 and I believe it was closest we had come at that time, since 1966, Gazza was part of that side, along with Gary Linekar.

I only saw him play for lazio myself and that was towards the end of his career I believe.

I look at the past world cups very simply like this...

1966 West Ham winners
1990 Spurs trophyless

Gazza was playing for the wrong team, you're welcome. <ok>

Would of been best in the world but for that stupid tackle in Cup Final and then drinking and doing his leg and knee while on crutches. Drink was his demon but had some great tournaments in World Cup and Euros and was unlucky to have Graham Taylor as England manager who preferred Geoff Thomas and Carlton ****ing Palmer while he was injured and so never qualified for World Cup 1994. Scored some cracking goals at Newcastle before move to Tottenham as well
