Exactly mate. Said on the thread during the game, they were looking for anything to rule that goal out. First it was whether Ings was offside, then it was whether Ingz had handballed it, then when they couldn't find anything, they decided to look for something else ffs.
So it defo wasn't clear and obvious.
As for Man City, they got away with murder against us. Ederson takes Odergaard out in that game and VAR doesn't even bother to get the ref to come and have a look at it. But when Silva dives, they call the ref over and because Xhaka has got hold of his shirt (even though that wasn't why he threw himself to the floor) he gives a pen. They are either both pens or neither are pens. If anything, the foul on Odergaard is more obvious.
As you say, it's starting to come down to who can con the ref and VAR the best, players know that if they bump into somebody or wrap their leg around another player's leg, then VAR will look at it and rule for an infringement.
What was supposed to clean up the game and make it fairer is actually ****ing it up and producing some truly baffling decisions. It's ruining the game imo and the authorities should **** it clean off.
The decision man City got against us was worse I reckon (Ederson taking out Fraser in the box). One of many but we also happen to be terrible at playing football and that does, in fairness, overshadow the issue.
