“We had to double take when we saw this stat: Mousa Dembele had 10.2% of the whole game's possession against Juventus.” [HASHTAG]#THFC[/HASHTAG]

Some statistic!

And that’s how he controlled the game.

He was sensational.

He and Eriksen were both absolutely class.

Sets the return leg up a treat with Juve likely to have their best players back. You needed to not lose with a couple of away goals and you have, despite Alli, Sanchez, Dier and Aurier.

Tbf @Saintmagic sent VVD a good luck card when he left for Liverpool.

Thanks for the memories Virgil you'll always be in my heart Saintmagic xxx

Nah it doesn't bother me that he left. Players come and go. I wouldn't be booing or crying about anyone who left to bigger and better things.

The first time it happened in 2014 when everyone left it took me a little by surprise, but like Spurs now, we found ourselves in a position where we had a lot of players that the next rung up the football hierarchy would want. So they came in for them, they paid the money and the players left.

Aurier is a ****ing liability. Sanchez is a great one for the future and despite being only 21 had a reasonable game last night. But I’m hoping Toby will be back for the 2nd leg.

Alli played one of his best games in Europe for us last night.

If we’d have played for 90 mins instead of just 80, we’d have won it.

Congrats, you are still complete minnows to both those clubs in the grand scheme of things though and it would take winning a couple of trophies every year for the rest of Kane's career for you to pull yourselves up to their level.

You know Kane personally then? Or are you just haunted by your own nightmares?

2 trophies a year...you act like someone who's embraced his feeder club status with a cherry on top.

Umm I agreed with you about Kane? I reckon he will stay.

Yes it would take about 2 trophies a year for the next decade for you to get close to Real Madrid/United level of size. I have embraced the reality of football, every club is a feeder club bar Real/Barca.

Great result or Spurs last night ... bit of good fortune with the missed pen but nevertheless a great performance ... the danger now is complacency - 2 away goals is great, but if Juve score first at Wembley I can see it all ending up as a bit of a damp squib.... very important for Spurs to score first IMHO - Juve need to be forced to come out and attack ... then they are vulnerable ...

So Busby's win in 68 doesn't count then, due to Utd not winning both the big cup and the league title in the same season.
Great logic.<laugh>, but as it was Utd no doubt Busby's win gets special status in your estimation.
You do know that if your definition had have been correct Utd couldn't have won it in 99, because they weren't champions when they qualified for that seasons tournament.:emoticon-0105-wink:

It was a completely different era in football back then. Teams didn't have squads of players to compete on 3 fronts.

Just being in the Euro Cup used to put you at a big disadvantage domestically, as due to only 1 English side being in it none of your other title rivals had to worry about Europe.

Nowadays with the exception of Chelsea last year, all the other title contenders are in the same boat. Plus most top sides have squads of 25 international players to cope with all the games.

Despite this we still finished 2nd, only 2 points behind the winners. We weren't 37 points behind the leaders.

I also never said your win in 05 doesn't count, it was lucky, but ofcourse it still counts <ok>

Funny then that we won the title, the big cup and a domestic cup all in one season, the big cup and the league title in one season and the big cup and a domestic cup in one season back then, so that's your flawed theory down the tubes right away.
And finishing 2nd means you're not champions whichever way you try to dress it up.<ok>

Don't be fooled - . they will be content to keep it dull and drab for 80mins ... it will be within touching distance and then they will hit you with the mother of all sucker punches - that's how they do it... the Italian way <ok> ...

I think that's what their game plan will be, it's a 90 min game so they don't need to panic about Spurs being ahead on the away goals. I'm sure they will keep it tight and hope to nick a goal.

Plus I don't think they are a good enough side in general to put Spurs under any sustained pressure. Their best hope is on the counter attack.

Realistically, Juve need to win, which is a conundrum for them. They need to be both aggressive and defensive.

They’ve seen the damage we can do to them if they overplay their hand, and the longer the scores remain level, or we’re in front, the more desperate they’ll become.

They are dangerous ... the two wingers are both capable of beating their full-backs and Higuain is undoubtedly a class act ... could be a very nervy last 10 mins ...

I've never doubted that Liverpool had great teams in the 70s and 80s. You dominated English football then, and dominated in Europe for periods.

I just don't think you've ever had a great side in the modern Champions League format. It may be seen as a biased opinion but I think our team in 99 and 08, are the 2 best English sides that have played in the CL.

That's just my opinion on it though<ok>

Sound, but we've only qualified 10 times(including this season), we've reached two finals winning one, a semi final and two quarter finals.
But you just can't bring yourself to admit that considering my last sentence to admit we've been far from "flukey" in the competition.:emoticon-0105-wink:
