Anyway, hoping Barnsley get a result tonight, Brentford are perennial play off bottlers so I can’t see them doing it, albeit I’d not be surprised if they got past Bournemouth, who I really don’t want back in the PL thanks all the same.

Have Barnsley ever been in the top tier, I can't remember?

Finished 19th. Palace finished 20th and qualified for the Intertoto Cup because they were the only side that applied! <laugh>
We stayed up on GD that season ahead of Bolton. I still can’t bare to listen to Johnny Vaughan after what he did on the final day that season.....

What did he do? That 89th minute equaliser must've made the nerves go! <laugh>
Him and half the Chelsea fans were cheering on Bolton that day, and he was infamously reported to have been screaming ‘burn Scousers burn’ when a late goal for Bolton would have seen us down.

Cheering on the opposition when you're not really playing for anything isn't that bad, but the Burn Scousers Burn thing? What's that about?
Still, he is Chelsea, so I can't say I'm surprised.

Yeah I know, pissing yourself and finding our demise funny is one thing, but that always stuck in my mind as it was quite sinister.

Seeing fans back at the togger is boss. Shame it’s taken so long, I don’t think anyone would have thought at the start of the first lockdown, we’d only now be seeing fans back in stadiums in half decent numbers 14 months later.

I thought it was funny when we relegated Birmingham, but that was quite understandable, I think.
They went into the last 3 minutes against us level and that would keep them up on goal difference and send Wolves down.
Loads of blokes in fancy dress singing about staying up, which quickly went silent when Wolves scored and dropped them into the bottom three.
Pavlyuchenko finished them off in the third minute of injury time, just to add insult to injury:

Cue lots of Brummies dressed as bananas and the like solemnly shuffling towards Seven Sisters, heading back to see their local rivals on Monday at work.

In theory, we could still finish top 4...that's seriously embarrassing for the prem <laugh>

Or we could finish 9th <yikes>

For Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester it's squeaky but time.

If Liverpool win their last two games they get top 4.
If Leicester beat Chelsea they are guaranteed top 4.
If Chelsea win their last two they gey top 4.

Leicester won't wanna blow a nailed on top 4 spot for the second year running.

Liverpool will be gutted if they blow it now it's in their own hands.

And Chelsea will find it soul destroying to lose the FA Cup and blow a certain top 4 finish ... could severely dent their confidence ahead of the CL final.

Gonna be a **** end to the season for one of them

You’ve got to love a bit of that tbf like, can’t say I can remember Everton being involved in a last day game that saw someone else go down, I’m sure there must have been one but it can’t have been particularly memorable.

Yeah, I can't remember doing it to anyone else either, especially right at the death like that. Painful stuff.
They beat Arsenal in the League Cup final that year too, so it's not like we had any ill will towards them! <laugh>
Ben Foster's held it against us ever since, judging by the 5,000 minutes of my life it feels like he's wasted in our games.

Think we sent Charlton down a couple of times in the 2000s too.

There's something uniquely football about enjoying the pain of other fans <laugh>

Chelsea could lose their remaining league games and finish 5th, then win the Champions League final, which would send UEFA into a meltdown.

When I was a kid I remember watching the goons lose an FA Cup final to Division 2 West Ham and 4 days later lose a European Cup Winners Cup Final.

Funny as ****...

Chelsea must be hoping the wheels ain't fallen off their season cos to lose a FA Cup Final, blow top 4 and lose a CL final all in a couple weeks would be a gutting way to end the season

I remember the Toon coming to Goodison in ‘95 for a Friday night game, they were flying high at the time, but we did them 2-0. At the end of the game the soft ****s did a conga around Goodison singing ‘we’re still going to Europe’

They went on to only win one of their last 5 games and missed out on Europe by a point, whereas we won the cup and did qualify. Sticks in my head that one, as it was such weird behaviour and made me chuckle thinking back on it for absolute beards.

Sent them down in 2007. Also put them on their way in 1999 by beating them 4-1 at their place near the end of the season, but it didn't finish them off.

Killed off by your own ex-player in the last minute? Ouch.
