He prevented the ball from being crossed in with his arm, that would have been a pen before the days of VAR.

Not when it's that close and hit with that amount of pace I don't think it would have.

By the bonkers rule this season though it was a definite pen. No where near the worst decision so far this season.

7 penalties in 8 games for them.
I missed it when they made that signing from Man Utd in the summer. Poor decision by Woodward.

Yeh but now wingers, full backs etc are crossing it at waist height all the time.

Whether that one was a penalty may be open to debate but it's still VAR ruining football.

Just let the onfield officials decide in real time, it's the fairest way.

Stonewaller.

with the extra bonus of stopping the holding in the box at set pieces :emoticon-0148-yes:

mind you if they had a congenital upper limb disability would we get discussions about if it was ball to flipper or flipper to ball :bandit:

And no one putting their arm up for offside

I judge on what I see, so would agree, if I felt it was purposely aimed at the arm, then, no pen. I just felt it was a situation where the attacking player attempted to cross the ball in and the defender had a flailing arm. I wouldn't have needed VAR to come to that decision and totally disagree with the commentators. If it was my team playing would I have wanted the penalty, dead right I would have.

Absolutely this. Especially giving the fact that the ball had beaten the defender and the only thing that stopped it going into the middle of the box was the defenders hand. Its a stonewaller, imo.

5 of those 7 were in two games (West Brom and Man City) because those two sides couldn’t defend for ****, I can’t recall any being contentious. The one vs Leeds on Monday he went through the back of him which is a free kick anywhere else and that one today is sadly a pen in today’s game. The fact those last two had to be overruled by VAR says something in itself...
