Surely even if it was 2mm offside, nobody can justify that sort of distance as an advantage?
Exactly. They’re trying to use absolutes for offside like goal line technology, when the offside rule is to stop the attacker goal hanging beyond the last defender.

If it can’t be seen with the naked eye in a freeze frame there’s no advantage ffs.

The stupidity of that offside decision by lets say 1mm, but what if the camera itself is not calibrated properly from the time the ball is played, especially if the fookers want to start getting this picky.

When it's that close they can probably literally pick whichever frame they like of the passing player striking the ball and decide on their preferred outcome.

You are trying to sync two separate incidents as a camera operator, the offside measurement and the moment the ball was played, they need to give a tolerance on these pictures. The picture of the offside actually tells us nothing.

Exactly so there has to be leniency when the system is going through its teething problems.

I just don't see why you can't apply clear and obvious to to offsides as well.

If someone is clearly offside (or on) then you will only need one or two replays to see so. We don't need the lines across the pitch bollocks, if it's not clear from two replays then stick with the onfield decision.

It also means it would take no longer than 30 seconds.

Not seen this offside goal but sounds like another armpit on. What never seems to get a mention is that the rules are a part of the body that can be legally scored with but then they rule out goals when the arm leans offside so it is contradictory. Incompetence!
And ffs can we just take this point now, this is only going to end one way second half

I can see a time coming, where a club is relegated on the basis of a VAR decision from earlier in the season, and that decision being taken through the courts due to financial losses as a result. This would then bring into account the tolerance of the measurements. You are relying on an operator to line up two measurements, 1mm is not a good enough tolerance for a picture alignment of framed shots.

I’m just having a bit of fun before Burnley hammer us later. I’m particularly looking forward to Pogba’s long balls up to Juan Mata in the last 15 mins.

You can score with your shoulder.

No way was it offside in live play, they selected the wrong stills from what is breaks in fractions of a second.

atm the lines are manually drawn in, but sooner or later the computer will do it automatically and it'll take miliseconds.

Yep, was thinking that too. Not sure about the court action, but I can see it happening this season that a team is relegated on the back of a dodgy VAR decision.

It's ****ing ****. It's creating more problems than it is solving. They should bin it off and leave it to the on field officials
