Match Day Thread General matchday thread.

I agree, ironically the hammering we administered on Sunday might in a round about way help the RS to the title. I said this to my lad during the game.

As, United are now a wounded beast, their fans are angry and even more up for tonight than they would have been anyway imo. They’re going to demand a performance tonight, the place will be rocking & I can see the kind of atmosphere that made the RS bottle it there the other month. The players know they’re going to be called out if they don’t leave everything on the pitch & therefore they will, just watch. I predict a draw at best for City tonight. Cue the celebrations commencing at Castle Greyskull. <doh>

If that happens I can see it more likely resulting in at least one red card for United.

I think the underlying psychology to the game is fascinating.

City know they need to beat United.

United know that if they prevent City winning, they will have helped their most hated rival (in the Premier era) win the title.

Don’t anyone try to pretend that there is not, at least, the possibility that this has the potential to affect the result.

Nice to see all those years you spent at the School of the Bleedin' Obvious wasn't wasted mate <laugh>

Hopefully City are still fuming from their CL exit to Spurs...i can imagine the shock must take a while to wear off when you think youve just got yourself a bye into the semis but you end up getting schooled

@gooner4ever to confirm that it was a 'bye'

Come on Raheem, chin up

They were a ****-hair’s width away from being onside for the goal that would have got them through. Not really a schooling in anyone’s book <laugh>

You should try wearing my specs

It looked like we scored 3 at their place and they managed none at ours...over a 2 legged affair...that is a schooling

That’s what I’m expecting. We would have to be at our very best to stop them and even then they are still capable of ripping us to shreds.

This is my guess for tonight’s team

De Gea
Dalot (RWB)
Young
Smalling
Lindelof
Shaw (LWB)
McTominay
Matic
Pogba
Mata/Lingard
Rashford

I don’t see Fred, Martial, Lukaku or Sanchez starting the game.

Ideally we would have Herrera in there instead of Matic.

In a back three with wing backs you'd have to have Jones instead of Young.
Yes, Jones is ****e but at least he's a defender. Young isn't and he definitely can't play in a back three.

With a three man midfield of McTominay, Herrera (hopefully) and Pogba we'd need a pace outlet up front so has to be Rashford and Martial.
If Herrera doesn't play and Matic has to, would consider Mata a midfield option instead of McTominay.

Whether Ole does is another matter of course.

You should visit the United board, we do talk about football over there sometimes.

Yeah, it's obvious now that I have pointed it out.

This is one of my principle roles on this board, Trebs.

Do you really think the players care that much about the rivalry?

City will create loads of chances against a very static United defence ... whether they take them determines the outcome. Wouldn't bet on United given the lethargy of the display at Everton, but there has to be a reaction to that surely? ... City by the odd goal is my prediction.

Anyone here listen to talksport on the way to work this morning? It seems they have a lot of Matths. It was hilarious what they were saying... one (STH since 1958) wants City to win 8-0 <doh>

This game isn't the defining ****ing moment anyway... the bottom line is whoever finishes 1st fully deserves it. Tonight just adds a bit of excitement to it. I think Leicester and Newcastle may also have a say in the end...

Reckon if we get a draw tonight we'll win the last three games and scrape fourth.

If we lose, we're out of it and if we win we definitely get fourth.

The big game in the top four race is on Sunday, if we beat Chelsea then we eliminate them essentially.
Both them and Arsenal are in a huge stick or twist situation with the EL, which helps us massively.

A draw would suit Liverpool of course and keep it proper tight for who is champions, City not having CL semi as a distraction.

Should be a great end of season all round.

Well, not if Liverpool win the league obviously but you get my point.
