Should have been sent off for that, disgusting from Arsenal, at least Liverpool took two points off the scum.

Liverpool did City and Villa a massive favour tonight. I still don't think either are good enough to catch them though. Man City not the same team anymore, and Villa just have that tad of inconsistency about them.

Yeah just watched what Martinelli did and I think the ref hasn't done him any favours by not sending him off there.

What he did looks horrible but in his defence... when a player goes down "injured" at that time of the game the general assumption (by fans and players) is that they're actually fine and just time wasting. I say that as the fan of a team who has some players who are notorious for it (Anthony Gordon being chief culprit) but all teams do it a bit, "tactical" breaks in play or time-wasting.

It's the end of the game, his adrenaline is pumping and he makes a nob of himself. He should have been punished in game but the fact he wasn't means it becomes a bigger talking point. Fair play to Slot for talking about it calmly and rationally after the match (most of the time he comes across well imho) and Martinelli has apologised and said he misread the situation.

I'm sure he definitely wont get any death threats to him or his family now as a result.

He’s a snide little rat who has done similar himself when actually faking injury. Arteta once rolled him back on the pitch to go down with cramp to get the game stopped.

I feel for refs. Every game now it seems there’s a ‘head injury’ or a goalkeeper mysteriously needing treatment while his team is winning. They can’t do a lot about either and there’s not a realistic solution. They can book time-wasting all they want (though rarely do, which is another issue) but a goalkeeper getting his second yellow and being eight away from a ban isn’t a punishment. Maybe clubs could be retrospectively punished for something but then there’s more bureaucracy and whinging about inconsistency.

Seen it, wast a hair pull or clapping the ref, so fine by me.
VAR should be able to review something like the hair pull and say “obviously a red card is dumb, give a yellow”.

That’s if we have to have VAR at all, which we don’t. It’s ****. Bin. People paying a grand for a season ticket to have the game moved to 3:30am on a Monday and then they have no idea what’s going on while some dickhead talks on his little headset to some other dickhead in Uxbridge working out if the defender’s bellend is keeping the striker’s nose hair onside.

VAR was used to make the ref aware….

But unsure why it wasn’t used to make ref aware of his error last night?

Think you are right, time it’s binned.

Aren't they talking about making an outfield player go off for a bit after a keeper 'injury'? Might help slightly.

I'd like to see players approaching the touchline during breaks in play banned too.

I think once he’s seen it he has no choice with the hair pull.

He probably can send Martinelli off for some offence or other but it’s an odd one. Could argue ‘violent conduct’ but not really. You used to get reds for ‘unsportsmanlike behaviour’ (something like that anyway) but not sure if that’s a thing any more.

Back in the day you’d have had Sounness or someone laying him out in the tunnel after but they were probably all chatting about which Love Island slags they’ve banged this week or swapped Pokémon cards.

I’m sure that will both happen and work seamlessly. And then again there’s the issue of it punishing teams with genuine injuries. Getting teams losing centre-halves for a defensive set piece now when they’ve got a genuine blow to the head because they have to do a mandatory 30 seconds off the pitch all to fix a problem they haven’t fixed.

Also Peretz should be a good signing and it’s nice to read the perfectly normal reaction to it online. Welcome to the genocide club. Mazel tov.
