any new wood stands were banned, so once the old **** had gone out or been condemned, it couldn't be replaced. So yeah I worded slightly wrong.

nope, I mistook any wood for all wood etc.

glad it happened- the ban on use of wood. Remember the reports and news footage.

It was rubbish under the seating. But note sure of wooden bits of ground were banned, parts of the Bullens Rd stand at Goodison had wooden sleepers/supports for the seats(wooden)

place would bounce

edit: or was the stand at Bradford full wooden construction?
seem to remember if not all wood it was mainly of wooden construction and like @Chief got back just in time to see the scores on grandstand instead to watch a disaster unfold in front of us .
In about a month we had Bradford ,a kid being killed from bricks falling on him at Birmingham City and then Heysel .****ing grim times

I was the same how Chief described it, watching it on Grandstand at home as it all unfolded. Terrible day. I've been to Bradford since, one thing I really remember about it is being half way up a hill, so built on an incline.

I'm pretty sure Bradford and Brum happened the same day

Same. It was awful.

'There's a Policeman on fire !'

It just got really bad really quickly.

I think they still show that video in Firefighting training videos to demonstrate how quickly a small fire can turn into a big out of control fire.

It was shown to us when I was doing fire safety training

You can see in that video how people to begin with are looking at a small fire and thinking that's not too bad, but the rate at which it grows and spreads is alarming. The combination of material (wood in that case) and the heat from a growing fire creates an exponential effect where the heat becomes so intense that areas that weren't alight, suddenly combust. At that point, you have a fire that is growing in strength and will eventually consume everything.

Very sadly on that day, lots of people didn't get out of the stand quickly enough, and I also believe that a lot of the casualties were found by a locked exit gate :(
