I was reading an article somewhile back and it seemed to suggest shoplifting got worse the more self checkouts were rolled out. And some supermarkets were considering reversing the trend of self service because it had become such a big problem.

I like the self scan checkouts. But self serve ones are a nightmare.

Your fragile ego is bruised to ****…<cheers>

Mine? ... oh dear ... again no self awareness... I rarely reply or comment on your posts, unless they are aimed at me ... you in contrast ...

PS this work of yours that was done earlier?

Proof, if it was needed, that a Mother's work is never done :)

<cheers>

Sometimes I automatically trigger the assistant help because I buy a lot of fruit and veg, and things like large spring onions can have such a variance in weight, the scales are well over whatever the weight variance is set at. So it's probably a check to make sure I'm not adding something else to the scales at the same time, in other words, buy one, nick one.

or you get something that don't scan and an operator comes and scans with something else of a similar price, that must play ****ing havoc with the ordering system....but I just carry on and mind my own business.

Best scam is Nectar at Sainsburys ... People leave print-out coupons at the till all the time... but they'll work for anyone with a Nectar card ... just this week there was one on the till I was at that said 'Spend £60 and get £9 off next time you shop' ... my bill after using my Nectar card was £54 something.. so I nipped off and got a £10 bottle of red (reduced to £8 with Nectar) ...

Only moment of bum wobble is when you scan the coupon - machine says 'Coupon needs store approval' ... assistant comes up takes one look at the coupon then approves ... free bottle of wine, Rodders! :)

I always thought those coupons were assigned to the account they were given to, but I suppose if you do it as a separate transaction and don't scan your nectar again it accepts it.

Mate ... been doing it for ages ... the multiple points ones don't even need an assistant ... only money off ones require approval ...

I would never dream of putting through two birthday cards and only paying for one.

That's what I'm talking about the money off ones, I always thought they were issued to a customer with an id number on, so you could only claim the discount by scanning your nectar card, so if you scanned your nectar card and someone elses coupon it would reject it (as a mismatch), which is probably why the assistant is over-riding it. I'm saying I thought, if you say it works then fine.

Btw I haven't used Sainsburys for years.

<laugh> I never nick anything, you're all a bunch of crooks on here lol

Mate - as soon as the coupon is issued it will be hitting Sainsburys general ledger as a 'promotional cost' ... that 'cost' will be reversed the day after the coupon expires, if not used by then ...

Rude not to help them keep their monthly books straight :)
