Gateshead and Dunston, brings back my youth Used to go to Dunston swimming baths and eat Highland Toffees (and swim, though not both at the same time) the story you've linked there is entirely in-keeping with my Dunston youth experiences.
Not sure. They were doing donuts on the pitch in the hearse and then jumped in a waiting car and fcuked off. Probably just having a laugh.
I scored my first hat-trick against Dunston. I was very good friends with a guy from there. He was a poster on your board but sadly took his own life about 5 or 6 year ago. Folk haven’t got much there but they’re great people.
I know what it was about now. They were chucking flyers out of the cars about somebody high profile connected to Newcastle United being a nonce.
Absolute joke mate. Was hoping that it would be a lot better in the championship but we've already got Sheffield on a Friday night and Plymouth and Sunderland as early ko on Saturday in just the first month of the season.
I had some quality times there as a kid. I actually used to live more west than that (Rowlands Gill) so not sure why we went there generally but it was always interesting. For those who are trying to work out what Dunston is like, it's where Gazza was from (and his mates who used to make the papers) and they're a good example of the kind of people I'd see. As @Saff says it's not exactly affluent but they'd give you the shirt off their backs if you're decent with them then drink you under the table. Always had a good footy team when i was growing up - though Gazza no longer played for them then. I turned out a couple of times for Snods Edge but a) I used to get smashed off the pitch as I was fast but light-weight and b) I used to play rugby and cricket instead mainly and was probably better at them.
Sounded like they smashed the fence down when exiting so i assume the getaway car was nicked as well as the hearse
I've heard of him (and recognise the face), he posts a lot about the club on social media and I think does some meet and greet stuff. Not sure what his actual role is though, always assumed he was a journo - most the time I notice him he's getting involved in some sort of clash on social media with fans. Why would this happen at Dunston/Gateshead though, he linked with either of them too? I feel I'm missing something here.
I knew someone was going to pull that up. In both i was put out on the wing, the difference was that I found in football I'd have to try and control the ball whilst running down the wing and people would just run over and shoulder barge me off the pitch without worrying about the ball. In rugby I found it easier to keep my head up and avoid/ outrun them, still got barged plenty but generally found it easier. I did get put in a 7's tournament once though and had to play flanker rather than as a proper back and get mullered, never played flanker again.
**** me lads, I've had a **** night... Come back from the pub and someone's only gone and nicked me hearse! Had a gig in the morning too...
Nah mate - I'm all for the working man. Taking a day's holiday for someone you're not family of is out of order. Saturday funerals for the win.
