Nah, you rock up at Newcastle (real United), and you get yourself above the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, into the top 4, a semi-final and improve the football the team are playing, That's how it works right? To steal a Sucky quote: "There's levels to this game" and the Man Utd gig is a far easier level than the toon gig was for Howe
Agreed mate. Howe's got the harder job given the players he has. That don't take away from the fact Ten Hag's arrived at our club and doing better than the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs. That apparently isn't doing well, it's par for the course lol. But don't worry in a couple of transfer windows when you've spent few bob, you should just be expected to turn up against all the other clubs spending hundreds of millions and win it all
It's just a weird season mate. I wouldn't be taking anything from it so far. Chelsea and Liverpool should come back a lot stronger. Tottenham would be my worry if I was a fan, unless they either back Conte in a big way transfer wise they then have to sack Conte. The players assembled in that squad have now been built into a defensive style and formation and to bring in a more attack minded manager won't bring the results a lot of fans seem to think it will. So the boards conundrum is then who do they appoint that can take them forward as a defensive minded coach if they choose the cheaper option and I can honestly only think of Simeone as the ideal suitor to the role that the fans would be happy with or Rafa if they want to take a gamble. Realistically both Spurs and Liverpool are going to need rebuilds in the next 18 months which are going to be costly. I can see Liverpool doing that come hell or high water, I don't have quite the same faith the Spurs board will follow suit without a change in ownership. Arteta has done a hell of a job, full credit to him. I do think City will catch them soon though and then they'll have a period where everyone's adapted at how to play them and some poor form will follow suit. Likewise, I still fully expect us to implode at some point, simply due to a lack of quality options from the bench. My hope is we have enough on the board to withstand a few poor result from the teams below us.
That's just bollocks. Since Abramovic started chucking money around, the top teams are stronger but the mid and lower clubs are piss weak by comparison to their counterparts when the PL started because they don't have and can't generate the same level of income. Those couple of season when City and Liverpool were stronger than everyone, they beat everyone. When United were dominant, the middle section were a lot stronger than they are now and the top section used to beat one another regularly. Them's the facts. Add to that, we used to win double and trebles regularly. When City or Liverpool have won the league, it's been just that. Bar City winning the odd domestic as well. No european trophy in the same season.
I disagree slightly. Conte has honed them into a defensive style. But I don't think playing a defensive style suits those players. And if Conte can't get them to do it, then I can't see anyone else managing it tbh. They need to back him with funds, or bring in someone who can have those players punching above their weight - which imo is Poch (or Howe? ). I honestly can't say about the rest of the season. Neither Newcastle or United may finish Top 4. I can still see any of the 3 below us coming back into it. Whoever does, will have done well though... not par for the course!
I ain't got time for your reverse jinx bollox Roy. Spuds are playing later, save that **** for the game.
