I think Romero’s head and shoulders above our CBs but his aggression obviously leads to trouble at times. But his outright defending can be very impressive.

Danso has definitely proven a very solid CB. Nothing special or spectacular about him but definitely does his job. He’ll give a 6/10 every week and every team/ squad needs those guys, Ben Davies is/ was like that.

Van de Ven’s disappointed me a lot though, outside of his pace to track back and tackle, his all round defensive game isn’t as good as the other two and I feel like he’s one of the players who’ve already clocked out. I won’t be too disappointed when he leaves like I would the other two.

I sometimes feel like we're watching two completely different players when it comes to Romero.

For all his technical brilliance, he is a hugely flawed defender. Loses his man too easily, doesn't communicate at all with his fellow defenders, and has a tendency to wander off into midfield and not track back.

He is a hugely arrogant player imo and that is where Toby and Jan are miles above him, not even in the same conversation. They understood that the game wasn't The Toby and Jan Show, and just got on with doing their job.

Which is why given the predicament we are currently in, Danso could well be a blessing in disguise.

Romero seems to thrive with better players around him. Thats why he performs better at international level and why he will still demand a significant fee when he inevitably departs.
He's not the player we want or need at this stage, and certainly should never have been given the captaincy. As such I think Danso will provide more stability.
In fairness to him though, his tendency to wander into MF wouldn't be such a problem if there was some sort of understanding in his teammates to actually cover for him.

Romero is Spurs best defender imo, he’s not a leader though.

If you put him in a top side, I don’t think he would look out of place though. He could slot into a Barca, Bayern, PSG or Madrid defence no issue.

He does have an understanding with Bentancur about this, as he'll drop deeper when Cuti pushes up, and Palhinha seemed to do something similar

So, of course, one of those is injured and the other is benched

I don’t think he’s as flawed as you’re making out.

Not sure about the arrogance either, I think he just wants to win, he’s the only player in years with a set of bollocks to call out the board too. I think he’s one of the few players at this club that actually wants what’s best for it, or at least wants what’s best in general which goes hand in hand.

Agree he’s not as good as Jan or Toby, that’s never really been a debate, albeit in the current declining climate of quality CBs, he’s probably at a similar rank across Europe as what they would’ve been in their day. I also think Romero’s not had the right partner like Jan did with Toby. Dawson never looked as good without Ledley and Jan struggled for a bit before we signed Toby.

I like Danso but I think you’re perhaps overestimating his impact, he’s started three of the last four league games and conceded 7 goals in those starts. He’s been an impressive signing for a third choice CB but we’ve not done any better or worse with him starting.

Who starts at CB at the moment seems irrelevant anyway, our midfield isn’t helping them out enough and our strikers are too dog **** to give the opposition anything to worry about.

I am warming to him it has to be said.

Whether it comes to pass or is just a load of the usual hot air is a different matter entirely of course... <laugh>
At the moment we have been led to the edge of the precipice and shown the drop. If we use the hot air coming up from below to help us fly then this is the best possible outcome. The directors will have no excuse not to act in the summer window and properly strengthen this team.
If we fall their task will be just the same but much, much more difficult.

Why oh why did you try to run with it like we are 3 goals to the good and coasting, when you just needed to boot that ball outta the stadium??!?

It's ingrained in them to a degree. You do see it all over the place, not just in the Tottenham team.

Years of not having a decent coach haven't helped as well...

My problem is that I truly don't believe that board is capable of doing so.

You have to assume/hope that Vini and Lange will be out when/if we drop. So who's left who has that footballing knowledge to undertake the task? It's a massive black hole that the Lewis familu have dug for themselves and I'm not sure they have any idea how to get out of it!

Yup.

It feels like almost every season, regardless of whether it’s been good or bad, we’ve often used the phrase of something like “over to the board to deliver” and 9/10 they fail to do their jobs adequately. The January window epitomised the utter **** heads in charge of this club.

Key players out, no creativity, no goals? I know, let’s sign a teenage LB no one had heard of and Conor ****ing Gallagher and make him joint highest paid player whilst we’re at it.

Seriously hope Lange, Vinai and all the Lewis’ slip on banana skins when walking to their seats in the stadium.

Danso looked very, very tired in both body and mind in that moment. Just couldn't sort his feet out.

Which is typical of a player who is a member of a squad that hasn't been rotated sensibly enough. Lack of sharpness and fitness is inevitable, especially at this end of the season.

The board has shown its incompetence and that is my point. The owners will see the financial costs (to them) of this failure by the board. They presumably thought Levy was the problem and pushed him out. Ironically they have clearly missed his financial nouse and they will miss it even more when the financial costs become clear. As with their continual search for managers (hopefully we have a good one now) they will need to find savvy directors. Also somebody has to look at our scouting system which appears to be extremely poor. Compare Spurs to Brighton, Brentford, Palace, Bournemouth. All teams with a lot less resources than Spurs but all doing far far better at finding and recruiting top footballers. Our solution of looking at 60million players and thinking they are the answer is pathetic compared to the clubs I mention who find better players than our 60 million shots for 15 million or 12 million over and over again.
