Torment and catharsis: Sunderland's David Corner and the 1985 League Cup https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...sunderland-david-corner-1985-league-cup-final
I saw that Sheff Wed got their points deduction for the accounting for the sale of their ground to their owner halved to 6 points. They stand a decent chance of surviving now.
Not that I care where Sheff Wed finish in the league, but making a change like that during the season seems absurd. How do teams around them in the standings feel about it?
Sheffield Wednesday have sacked manager Garry Monk with the club one place off the bottom of the Championship table. After taking over last September, Monk oversaw a 16th-placed finish in his debut campaign at Hillsborough, but his side have won just three of their opening 11 league fixtures this season, with chairman Dejphon Chansiri having set lofty targets. Wednesday were given a 12-point deduction in August for the 2020-21 season after being found guilty of breaching EFL spending rules, but the penalty was halved to six points last week following an appeal. Without the points deduction, Wednesday would be outside the relegation zone in 21st, and just two points back from 12th-placed Blackburn Rovers.

I wonder if Dani Ayala similarly endured years of stick from Boro fans following Jerome's goal at Wembley.
Derby County have parted company with manager Phillip Cocu with the club bottom of the Championship. The Rams have won just one of their first 11 league matches this season and lost their last league game 2-0 at home to Barnsley. Former Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Cocu, 50, took charge at Pride Park in July 2019. His assistants Chris van der Weerden and Twan Scheepers have also left the club by mutual agreement. Wayne Rooney ,next in line?
The government is exploring the potential for fans to return to sports venues in some parts of England as early as next month. According to sources, Prime Minister Boris Johnson privately indicated to MPs on Monday that re-opening turnstiles as soon as possible was "a personal priority". The Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is working on allowing fans into stadia in areas where rates of infections are deemed sufficiently low - possibly before Christmas. Can't see this happening. Count me out.
