After 9 games in the PL, four teams are on 5 points or less. Could be a record low number of points needed to stay up. The current record low is 31 by Burnley in 2009/10.
Just catching up with the foreign football highlights. Nelson and Sancho are ripping it up in Germany. Lookman did the same last season. What an exciting time to be an English football fan. There is a wave of amazing young talent crashing against the wall at the moment. Southgate isn't afraid of chucking them in. We are past picking the same old tired names from big clubs. In the same way the academy players at Norwich are adding so much to the feeling and match experience, seeing these exciting English players banging on the door and being drip fed in, is really great to see. At club and National level.
Radio 5 have an hour long program one evening rounding up European football. It's usually pretty good, plus I rate Guillem Balagué, the Spanish guy who hosts it
Terrific post FML and let’s hope that the trend to give youff a chance filters through to more clubs. Look at the impact of Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.
There is a certain ironny to us being held up as an example in giving the youff a chance. Our policy of recruiting cheap foreigners could arguably be seen as at odds with youngsters getting a chance. As an example, both Godfrey and Thompson are having to be very patient whilst: Zimmermann, Hanley and Klose in defense and Tettey, Trybull and Lietner in midfield are in possession of the shirts. I'm not denying that we have given some quality youngsters a chance and it has been mutually beneficial, but they have only stayed in the team because they have been good enough and that we have no one better (Husband, Passlock so far etc) Bah!
As usual General, an excellent post and I'm sure the time will come for the likes of Godfrey etc. The way the team is playing, I see no need for changes and we have our trip to the South coast on Tuesday to give others a chance to show their skills.
Tettey to return for Trybull is only change needed for Saturday.Every player scored at least a 7 from me.
So, I've just been looking at the league table and with the eccexcept of West Brom, Boro and Derby have scored fewer than us and Leeds and the Blades have both scored 4 more than us.
I have nothing against Ipswich. I always want us to win against them, but their fans were fools wanting Mick McCarthy out, he is a very good manager, trying to run on a shoestring budget without a youth system capable of producing very good players. They were fools and now are being shown up for being so.
I'm not sure I agree. If you're a fool for wanting change when the football is dire and the results acceptable then I'd be a fool ammoungst them. They put up with years of his hoof ball. It maybe that they go down but if they can build from there with a manager that wants to play football then in the long run they will be happier. I'd say Farke was no less a gamble than Hurst. But Farke started and continues with a better squad and scouting network Bah!
The decision to allow Mick's contract to run out and appointing Hurst were 2 separate decisions.. The decision to part ways with Mick was (and is still is in my view) the correct decision. 5 years is an absolute lifetime in football and I think even he would admit everyone concerned needed a change... I thank him for what he did and wish him well, but I am pleased he is no longer in charge. The decision to appoint Hurst to replace him however is looking like a mistake, though I'm not sure who would (or could) be a better appointment given the huge power vacuum at the top end of the club.
Just to get in there before you hear it from anywhere else.. We've sacked Hurst and are about to appoint Paul Lambert as his replacement Care to share any thoughts on that possible appointment?
