If Gunn goes back I would hope we sign a competent keeper with more than a few games first team experience in League 1. As a second choice goalkeeper Matthews fits the bill but as our #1 ? That would be Insane.
DF and Webber's brief from day one was to shift out the high wage earners and work on a leaner, fitter, younger squad to take us forward. As ever, this carries an element of risk but I'd say they've unearthed several potential gems who may yet grow in stature to far exceed the lethargic performances of say Russ Martin, Ryan Bennettt, Bassong, Whittaker etc. And, give them credit, the way the club is at present, there are more sow's ears lying around Colney than silk purses. Far too early to talk of phoenix rising from ashes, etc but are you genuinely not impressed with what has been achieved this season - on such a minuscule budget?
Any new GK we'll bring in will be a risk and under Lambert did we not buy players from League 1 who managed to step up? and it's more than a few games he has played. I'm more than happy to see him given a chance and see how well he does, but if not then no big deal.
I am very impressed with the points amassed the introduction of Jamal Lewis , the signings of Trybull Zimmermann and Hanley . I like that we are blooding youngsters and fully understand that we are forced to because the board pissed all the money away . The point that I'm attempting to make is nearly all our wins have come through Gunn keeping clean sheets and Maddison scoring. If we lose these 2 exceptional players next season which is a given and don't get adequate cover then the clean sheets will be a distant memory and our unflattering goals scored stat will be even worse. I doubt that many teams in the history of the Championship have secured so many wins from so few goals scored . I expect 1-0 every game now which is extremely positive.
Knowing the way Webber works, I'd suggest that contingency plans are already in place if your worst case scenario above should materialise. Maybe not of the same worth as AG and JM, or with such high sell on values, but if they can retain the nucleus of this squad, that really is the best we can hope for. We have been, are and will continue to be a selling club while the money slooshing around the the top flight continues to grow, sadly. Precious little we, SW or DF can do about that
The best case scenario is we keep winning 1-0 scrape a play off spot and go up again. Buy Angus on a permanent and sign World ckass talent like Marriot for €45m and win the Premier league. Fact
Sterling interview tonight. "yea, of course I'm happy.." Are you?! You sound like you want to drown yourself!? Skip over your rehearse cliché boring lines. And you still sound like such a t**t. Maybe worth recognising how lucky you are. you can buy or do anything in the world that you want. Yet he does an interview like the interviewer just shagged his mum in front of him while he was tied to a chair with he eyes tapped open. Crack a smile you ungrateful sod!
Harry Kane. Best Striker in the world. I think he has earned that now. I really think he is the best out and out striker in the world. I think in terms of best attacking players. He is second behind Messi. Harry Kane, for the past 3 or so seasons, has been unstoppable. I think each season, he is looking better.
Well in my mind a keeper doesn't keep a clean sheet a team does and a single player doesn't score a goal by himself he does it with the assistance of his team. A keeper could go a whole game without making a save and at the end of the game people would say he kept a clean sheet, but his contribution may have done very little to that achievement. We have been very strong for a lot of this season defending our goal, but this is not solely down to Gunn, indeed I would say that his role has been no greater than Klose, Zimmermans, Tettys or Trybull's. For me the real changing point in our defence was the dropping of Martin and the signing of Hanley along with Tetty's return to the team. Hanley has through leadership brought organisation, grit & resilience to our defence, things we sorely lacked under Martin. Don't get me wrong I think Gunn has done very well for us and I would love to see us sign him permanently (isn't going to happen) or come back to us on loan next season (possibly). I also not fully convinced that Matthews should be our first choice keeper next season, however clearly this decision does not need to be made until the summer transfer window is open. I don't think our current situation is down to a couple of players, although we may well be weaker if the were to leave or get injured tomorrow, it's down to our squad and how DF is coaching them. I think we would be in a worse position if Hanley and Klose or Zimmerman left. I also don't think it's a given that both players won't be here next seasons, indeed it's not unreasonable to suggest they could both be with us next season, although if that was the case I suspect it would be under loan agreements. For the first time since perhaps the Lambert days we seem to be building a team / squad ethos that we certainly didn't have under AN. AN's answer was when things we were trying to do didn't work out was to say we must work harder and carry on trying to do the same things. Where as DF is working the team in training much harder than they were ever working under AN, shown that he is able to adjust tactics and developing the players he has through inclusion / exclusion from the starting 11 / match day squad and loans.
A heartfelt piece from a long time Binner about the current state of affairs at the Suffolk club. Fairly damning indictment of the club, from top to bottom. OTBC http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/stuart-...tion-filters-down-from-the-very-top-1-5390705
Terrific post canario and whilst Gunn has made some fantastic saves, I've noticed in the last 2 or 3 match reports the comment has been that 'Gunn was a spectator for most of the game' and our defending has become so much more resolute - something it NEVER was in either PL's/NA's or AN's tenure. Yes, we just have to enjoy having Gunn and Leitner in the team, as I'm fairly convinced that neither will be in our squad next season.
If we sell Madders, we need to get £25m+ and PLEASE PUT A SELL ON CLAUSE IN THE CONTRACT! £25m+ should see us able to by 3-5 decent, replacement players (depending on whether we sneak up to the Prem or not... unlikely, I know).
