It's amazing how so many people have absolutely no idea of the purpose of pre-season friendlies, all they do is moan and bleat on! <doh>
What are you talking about!?

A new manager, a new staff team, a pretty much new squad!

Let's play Jerome in goal! It's a pre-season!! All that matters is minutes!! Lets give him 90, in goal!

.....Jesus! We should be testing and trying the formations and teams we want to start the season with. Are we just going to spring a different formation and starting line up on the squad for the opening game of the season!? That would be seriously stupid. I know they have to get fitness up, but it's not as simple as just sticking any player on the pitch for as long as possible.

There has to be some thought put into it!

I would quite like to see a well drilled defence in pre season .
I guess I have no Idea of what pre season friendlies are for either.

3 pre season games in and 12 goals scored already, even though these games are meaningless, that's a positive. Should get more of an idea about who will be 1st team near the end of pre seasons. For now it's getting to match fitness and new players settling in.

Who are the teams we have played!?

If it was a top flight team in any league, even 1 win against a team in any top league. Then I'd see a positive.

We have scored 12 goals against Lowestoft, Stevenage etc...

Means nothing to me.

FML, you are so bloody childish at times, I've got a picture in my head of you stamping your foot and saying, "It's just not fair!"

Who mentioned putting Jerome in goal? That's just plain stupid! Thank you and goodnight! <doh>
So busy <doh> that you can't see the point past your hand.

Honestly, I think this is a good thing. It sounds like Farke has a system he's trying to implement, and everyone is going to learn it. It's a mix up between Godfrey and Jones as both trying to carry out Farke's instructions, and not getting it right. But I don't expect our 3rd/4th choice goalkeeper and a youngster to be combining too often this season!

Angus Gunn has come from a year with Guardiola, and we know he values goalkeepers who can play out - ask Joe Hart. And I fully expect us to sign a CB who can play the way Farke wants to. Godfrey and Jones combining to concede a goal is irrelevant.

Our defence is distinctly makeshift tonight, so you could forgive the temptation for them to revert to type. But that's a midfield that could easily appear this season, and by our defence playing "properly" our midfielders will learn where they need to be, and how to carry out their defensive roles.

The Lowestoft and Cobh games were all about fitness, we're now into a period of pre-season where minutes are important, but tactics will start to come into it, and things will be fine-tuned as more and more first team places are nailed down.

And goals we let in means nothing to me so early on, I was just pointing out a positive as you pointed out a negative. But as I've already said these early games are pretty meaningless and no point working yourself up about, we will get a better idea where we are when we finally play the better teams.

Michael Bailey: City's passing very crisp, and they've noticeably improved at making sure simple options are on. Much more structure visible. You can still see the occasional panic at the back though.
