Oh maybe, I was just going by the position, which was an open goal. Great finish there by a very good player.

Watched only a little bit of the womens World Cup so far, and whilst some of it looks of a poor standard in comaprison, once I get over my own ignorant expectations, it's a decent watch. But one thing i just cant shake, when Mark Sampson speaks, all I can think of is 'Littlefinger'.

Talking of women's football, do you think someone who's transgender would be eligible to play?

    That would be ridiculously patronising.

I'm not saying I agree with OROW, but the same is done in a lot of other sports, such as the Olympic throwing events, hurdles, etc. Surely it's not completely ridiculous?

I agree lots of sports have different variations for women than for men, so it's not completely ridiculous.

the Bbc highlight clips where they have the England players pointing at the camera saying "are you still watching?" and crap like that is unbelievably cringey. Also I can't stand Jonathan Pearce and his shouty voice and awful commentary

If you don't like something, don't watch it. I really don't get the nastiness about women's football...no one criticises female runners for being slower than Usain Bolt. Women are perfectly entitled to play football and compete in competitions specifically for them. If only the very best have the right to compete, we should abandon all competitive youth football and not let them play till they are eighteen years old. And as for nonleague football....stop that right now!. I just don't understand why only footballers come under such criticism.

Who's being nasty? I only criticised one woman footballer, one woman commentator and one woman referee.

I don't criticise it Fran, but I just can't watch it. I can't put my finger on what it is about it; I just don't find it good to watch.

So I do what you advised actually. I don't criticise and I don't watch it :)

Not specifically against people on here, but women's football does get criticised far more than any other case of women in sport. I cannot think of another sport where anyone constantly compares it unfavourably to the men's game. Athletics, swimming, cycling, sailing etc are just accepted as having male and female versions. I think it must come down to jealousy that women are competing and (sometimes) earning a living doing something that a lot of men would like to do, whereas fewer think they could be marathon runners, downhill skiers or tennis players for example. .

Criticising is fine as long as it isn't over the too. The pitches and most of the refs are **** tho.

Football in many countries is a massive part of male culture and identity, much more so than any other sports. It is the sport that men are most passionate about. I guess the threat to this masculinity is somewhat worrying to many men, and the natural response is to try to restrict/denounce the threat etc.
