We used to have a quite successful Football Combination league in this country but the creation of the PL who eventually introduced the EPPL closed the door on opportunities for smaller Clubs to develop their players by introducing them to the "Mans" game instead of playing against the same age (or less) groups . Also making it less cost effective to maintain their Academies hence why a few clubs closed theirs . One of a few problems we as a Club will have by dropping out of Cat 1 status is that we'll be left to pick up kids from the local area rather than having an attractive set up such as we had.
Enjoyed many a Combination game at The Vetch.

I will have a think about it, ...... I will put you on zee reserve list for now@Victor you sprightly, energetic, charming genius you, I’ll have a look.

The school boys are still going strong but how many these days go to progress into making a career out of the game . I wouldn't say the Academy stifled opportunities but I don't think its helped the local kids. Out of the class of 2012 when the Academy was formed there's one player left in the original age group of U8's Cameron Congreve who recently played for the U23's ( he is under 18 ) the rest either playing local league or not at all.The natural progression used to be - Schoolboys, Welsh League, Combination, First team.
A real pity that the Academy has been devalued.

They can shove it where the sun don't shine,I don't miss it and I have a feeling a few others feel the same way.
I haven’t watched a PL game since our relegation, I’ve no interest in it.They can shove it where the sun don't shine,I don't miss it and I have a feeling a few others feel the same way.
Henry Winter :
"£14.95 to watch a game on pay per view is disgraceful. £5, ok, but £14.95? It's disgusting. At a time when PL clubs spent £1.2bn on players. When they'll give agents £200m. When so many families are struggling. The creed of greed is in
@premierleague DNA but this truly stinks.
The @premierleague needs to be very careful here. I'm lucky to go to games behind closed doors - and full respect to players for giving everything - but games soulless without fans. PL risks alienating fans with its blatant greed. When fans can return in 6 months, will they all? "
Hey less of the cheek, what do you mean ‘older’Aldi or McDonalds? The Wife occasionally goes in that Aldi, I'll ask her to look out for an older gentleman in black and white trackies shouting "cash or card butt?" on the checkouts![]()
