Had a shock this morning, when a young black girl was in a heated argument with a black professor . She disagreed with the damage that they were doing, and demolishing statues. She said it was history, and did not affect her, and that it was pointless banning films like " Gone with the wind " And as that Britons show, she actually enjoyed it and thought it hilarious . ........... She really had a go on TV. ........... good on her.
Sky must have made a big mistake inviting her to speak, As all other people on their shows, are all in favour of removal of just about every bloody thing.. ............. what the bloody hell has gone wrong with this country?
It is hard to believe that both Sky, and B.b.c. are so one sided, and only interview Black protesters.
That Black Girl shook them this morning.
Sometimes on life you don’t always get what you want and that includes broadcasters with their own agendas to for fill

Agreed, we should never forget the past. Maybe these monuments should stay but have big signage attached saying what that person really was. I feel it's wrong to just let slave traders have statues around the place when people may not know much about them. I don't think people should have to actually look up someone to find out that they were extremely unsavoury. It should be very obvious - with an acknowledgement that these people where at one time looked up to by wealthy white people.

Let's remember ' The past is a foreign country - they do things differently there'. (L.P. Hartley)
No amount of statue destruction can change our history, people had different views, and now we are more educated (?) and humane, thank goodness.

Thing is though to most ordinary people a statue is just a piece of bronze on a piece of rock, it could be anyone, I bet this bloke in Bristol has had more said about him this last day or two than all the years he's been standing there.
Hands up anyone outside Bristol who had heard of him and what he did.

I’d heard of Colston School - but knew nothing of Colston himself <cheers>
