" until the last rebel " It absolutely smacks of a pathetic martyr/persecution complex. Would an adult really write something like that and expect to be taken seriously ?
I've just read (for the first time) this which appears to make as much sense as their other proclamations. "The Green Brigade were formed in the summer of 2006 resulting from a break away from the Jungle Bhoys that began the previous year. The core aims of the group are to inject colour, create an atmosphere and provide vocal backing to the team, an aspect of Celtic Park that has rapidly decreased since the re development of the stadium to an all seater. As a politically orientated Ultras group, the use of banners, tifo and pyro, both home and away, are fundamental to our presence at matches. The continuation, in some cases resurrection, of Celtic and traditional Irish songs are also at the heart of the group. Despite problems in the past from police, security and the club in their attempts to curtail and water us down, the Green Brigade continues to enjoy the support and backing of the Celtic support on the whole. This has allowed the group to flourish with popularity rising each year. Our method of support goes against the clubs ideals which aim to market games as more of a family day out. Undisputedly this has caused a rapid decrease in the level of noise and atmosphere within the ground compared to the standing areas of the stadium that were taken away during Celtic Parks redevelopment in the 90′s. As a reaction to this, the Green Brigade advocates standing and vocal support throughout the duration of the game in our section, area 111. The Green Brigade development has been influenced by the Ultras groups present in Europe that have no counterpart in British football. As a club deeply rooted with Irish culture and history, the group expresses solidarity with Irish republican politicians and activists in their efforts to reunite the six occupied counties with the republic. The suppression and criminalisation of Irish republican songs by the government that was strongly objected by many Celtic supporters groups including the Green Brigade has revealed the narrow mindedness and clouded judgement of those in charge. The hollow arguments and lack of competency in how the Bill was carried through into law has shown complete disregard and ignorance, resulting in the black shadow of sectarianism being cast over our Irish heritage and culture. Despite this, the Green Brigade will continue to retain our proud Irish identity within Scotland, whilst strongly supporting Scotland’s right to independence and self determination separate from the United Kingdom." From their own website which also has a selection of photos of banner displays, tatoos etc. What I don't get is that they state at the start that "The core aims of the group are to inject colour, create an atmosphere and provide vocal backing to the team". They then go onto say that "Pyros" "are fundamental to our presence at matches". Well it appears that like many Fundamentalists ( I could have a field day with the obvious puns contained therein) they will not entertain debate or be open to compromise, they, I would suggest, have backed themselves into a corner. Next they lay out - in no uncertain terms - their political beliefs, beliefs which they are fully entitled to espouse, but I, along with many many others do not happen to believe a football stadium is a fit arena for the airing of controversial beleifs, political or otherwise, especially when those beliefs are nothing to do with the Club or it's principles. We could literally argue all day whether or not Celtic is in any way connected to the struggle for Irish independence, but in my humble opinion it is not and never has been. It's been a convenient star upon which some people have hitched their wagons, but in my experience (and only my own personal experience) as a fan who grew up in the East end of Glasgow, only a mile from Parkhead, I have never seen or witnessed, nor even heard opinion that the GB's politics are shared by a large number of Celtic fans. I don't see any evidence of it today any more than I did in the 70s, 80s or 90s. The GB and their politics are a minority interest within the Celtic support as a whole. The sooner they realise they are in the minority the the better for everyone. The problem is I don't think you can ever convince fundamentalists that they may be wrong. Perhaps if they stayed true to their stated "Core Values" and concentrated on "injecting colour, creating an atmosphere and providing vocal backing to the team" they would gain more support from old fuddy duddies like me.
I forgot the Orange ones, they are rotten too. I'm beginning to wonder why I ever ate them? It's better to buy a packet each of Treats and Maltesers.
Yeah, we wanna be free, free to do what we wanna do, we wanna get loaded and have a good time...and move laterally..and..err... let off bangers...* please log in to view this image * a quotation/sample from Marlon Brando et al in The Wild Ones where he was leader of The Black Revel Motorcycle Club.....
You are ascribing qualities to them to suit your agenda. That is fine, we all do it. Just so long as you are aware of it.
yes I am, an out-dated confectionary that no one really liked that much who`s time has long gone . until the last revel.
do they have to finish every statement with "till the last rebel"? When I am thinking, grow up, you know its ****ing bad.
Every Celtic fan ive spoken to is fed up with their pish and is taking the clubs side, even though they all agree the lateral movement thing is a load of ****e, RebelBhoy is literally the only **** outside the group defending them. Ever since Lennon took the trophy over and sat it in front of them they think they are better than everyone else, I wasnt happy when Lennon done that.
