Szcesny played for Arsenal on the back of playing for Brentford. Butland played for Birmingham on the back of a spell at Cheltenham. Gazzaniga has played for Gillingham. A good keeper looks a good keeper at any level since the challenges goalkeepers face don't change as much as they do for outfield players. I'd be all for playing him if Adkins thinks it's right. Gazzaniga is excellent at playing the ball out and that's an area where Kelvin has rightly been criticised. I'd be too much of a wuss to make the call, but fair play to Nigel if he does it. It would be for the right reasons.
Paulo to be a possible starter today if you can believe the current bun. If true is this possibility a good move or a move of desperation?
It's a rumour that comes from a fake Facebook page. Not that it's impossible, but there's no more reason to think he'll be dropped now than there is any other day.
Think its a great idea to give the lad a chance. Saw him play during pre-season and the lad looks like a real talent. Made 3-4 world class saves and I tell you one thing the boy can kick! His distribution is great. Only negative is obviously his communication, although when I saw him he had only been at the club for a week or so. Happy to give him a run out get him in the zone for Wednesday (on Tuesday!). Think with a decent run in the side he could push Kelvin for that top spot. Lets hope he responds well to Premier League football. You never know could become a great player for us.
... Oh and on the truth of the rumour I did hear it confirmed yesturday by 'someone who knew someone in the club' who repeated that Gazzinga would be starting before the facebook stuff came out. Obviously not 100% but sounds possible
Matt Le Tiss (sports reporter btw) helpfully proliferated the original rumour without the next bit saying it's not actually true. Thus everyone now believes it. It's possible but I'm fairly certain it will be Kelvin today, Gazza on Tuesday, and there is enough of a case to make a switch for next week then it will happen.
That would be my idea of a way forward but if the coaches think it necessary who knows. Couple of huge piles in front of our goal on trolleys so the bullshit can be moved at half time.
Not sure how I feel about this. Hint of desperation to put in an un-tried backup goalie when KD hasn't really done anything wrong. Slightly related, I was listening to the Football Weekly podcast (good stuff, give it a go if you haven't listened) and they seem to think Davis is not anywhere near good enough for this level. To be frank they have far more insight than Jamie Redknapp or Hansen. I trust Adkins to make the right call, considering he was a keeper back in the day he should know if we are strong enough in that position.
Kris Temple of BBC Radio Solent: Latest word on the #Saintsfc street is that it appears Gazzaniga WILL play, regardless of fake-Facebook-gate #gills
By the way you said that facebook account is fake but it is not as we know that he actually has that account as I know someone who talked to him while he was at Gills.
Also if you are friends with him you will see he is friends with all his family members on there, we got it verified by Danny Spiller straight away.
Has the 1on1 save Gazzaniga made been completely forgotten? Seems to have been on the match ratings thread. Could have been a huge moment if we'd let it in
No real problem with Gazza, felt he should come out for any ball within or near the six yard box, which he did not do today, but other than that did not really have too much to do
