No its OK Robin, I am keen to hear what PISKIE has to say, I couldn't care less if he is a mod or not, during discussions like these I only see him as a normal poster with an opinion so I don't mind. He and the others take the moral high ground but I can guarantee you that I think my beliefs on how the club should be run and the direction we should go in are correct so I hold them and their view in AT LEAST the same level of contempt that they hold us and ours Lets see what the weight of their argument is, lets see it's worthiness and then simply prove to them that they are chatting rubbish because so far all I see is emptiness. Lets see them argue the points like, we were able to win trophies spending far less than others before or, if trophies only went to the big spenders, why did Lille, Boavista, FC Twente etc win trophies in their respective leagues. I can shoot down every single point they make but I guarantee you, the only way they can shoot down my points is by being pedantic, much like the div Gazidis saying ... "but we are in more competitions than City"
Well I'm glad someone has understood the difference between being a fan with an opinion and being a mod managing issues that need attention, my opinion has nothing to do with my moderation My opinion is that we do need to invest in our squad, but I don't think we could or even should go down the route of trying to match City and Chelsea - as (1) we can't (2) We'd soon end up with unsustainable debt (3) FFP will put a stop to it anyway. Arsenal have decided to take a sustainable route, given the financial landscape in football and in the worldwide economy, this makes complete sense to me. Whilst it might not yield trophies in the short term, it certainly sets us up for a stable future. Who knows, we might even win something this season. Will you still be lambasting the manager and the board their approach proves to right ?
I think the most frustrating thing over the last 5 years has been the recurring phenomena of us being only a couple of players short of a title winning team. When we are nearly there and one of our youth players comes of age, someone else leaves and we are back to square one! If we'd kept Nasri and Fab AND signed Oxo, Merts and Arteta we'd be comfortably top 4, or probably higher (maybe even title challenging). We frequently come so close but never have the complete team that I'm sure is Wenger's vision. Just one or two players bought in this admittedly inflated market would have solved a lot of our problems over the last few years and maybe have even landed us a trophy!
I'd agree with that. For whatever reason, our club have seen fit to sell our best players over the last few years (to balance the books most likely). I think it must have been extremely frustrating for Wenger, who fought to keep these players. One thing your comment does point out though, is that we are not that far off. One or two players short. It's not all doom and gloom at Arsenal.
I think balancing the books is part of it with the mature players, as they want to sell them while they are worth something. Nasri and Fabregas were of course a different story. I do think that transfers take a lot longer than people realize and anticipating that you will need a player, for a particular position, six months ahead of time is not easy.
Take into account the fact that (1) The player has to be available (2) The player want to move to us (3) The selling club have to agree to sell to us (4) The transfer fee has to be agreed (5) Personal terms and wages have to be agreed and those wish lists look a lot like being just that....
Completely agree with you Suker. So near and yet so far and all one's hopes are dashed, year after year. I began the start of the last calendar year believing that if we could only hang on, we may just edge our our rivals to the EPL title. Then came the disappointments which followed from the end of February when Arsene seemed unable to influence the team's performances. It was around then that Gazidis was interviewed on R5Live during which occasion, he gave us his vision which were what he said again as reported in my opening post. He would not be budged even if adhering to this policy meant that we would lose star players and have trouble attracting those of similar calibre. No one is asking for the earth to be spent. Just more than we are doing so we can have a decent opportunity at winning again. Just take Utd's example. They invested ( spent if you like ) to win and this paid off on the bottom line too. However these men who run our club have their ways and see no other way so I wonder why it is that they can only see this singular approach. Unless of course they are telling us everything and the strings are being pulled from across the pond...
It is a catchy tune but it really is just dance music. The beat is hypnotic, but the musician talentless.
Sorry Robin my friend.I seem to have misled you. Those aren't my personal views.I found that quote here http://news.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A7267339
You really wouldn't want to read it anyway. It just proves how certain people post different things on different websites depending on which way the wind is blowing We are now officially not a selling club Premier League Arsenal by jayramfootball (U13248989) 07 August 2010 With the result on the Cesc situation, Arsenal have proved they are not a selling club. We only sell players when they are past their best, dont have the attitude to play at the top level, or are an unsettling influence on the team. Henry - got his best years Vieira - got his best years Overmars - got his best years Petit - got his best years Toure - got his best years Cole - trouble maker and weasel Adebayor - not good enough due to attitude (he's now looking to leave City, lol) Anelka - not good enough due to attitude (could have been the worlds top striker, now an also ran second choice who failed at Liverpool, and Real) Hleb - not good enough due to attitude (failed spectacularly at Barca) Flamini - attitude problem, failed at AC Milan - now looking to leave again As soon as someone wants one of our top players, still young, and has the right attitude, we say 'get lost'. Message to all clubs - you can have our over the hill, or trouble making players... in fact you're welcome to them. What Arsenal have done is fantastic for football, and all clubs should be thanking us. Bravo Arsenal - leading the way with the right football, the right way of running a club, and the right policy on transfers. I wish the media would wake up to the fact that Arsenal way should be lauded and all clubs should be looking to manage their organisations in the same way. Personally i would rather we carried on running our club this way than win things - but i think that we are just about to have our cake and eat it. It will only take confidence and we will start winning - regularly. Arsenal = respect.
I think clearly Jayram has been seduced, and lured away from the path of righteousness, by an evil cult (probably due to their highly dubious sexual activities). We must mount a rescue!
I'm in Cym's cult too apparently. Couldn't possibly interfere with the actions of another cult, no matter what their intentions ......
