...you wish our board was doing what theirs is doing? I can't be happier with the way the board are conducting business (well, I lie, Dorus left, but you can't stop a guy and I've no doubt the board made him a fair offer). I don't get the Sunderland thing!
 
Monk deserves a shot at the Premier with us if only for 'that' block in the play off final. Think we should create a 'Monks Golden Toe' trophy and give it to our best defender each season - that toe is a legend I tells ya!!! ;)
 
If we sell him we should aim to get a player from thier youth set up chucked in the deal as in the long run he will be better for the swans than monk, saying that his presence in the changing room could be invaluable in integrating new players into the team unit philosophy
 
Hey Musty, not sure why you dislike Monk so much. I agree he's past his best, but a Centre-back and Captain is about way more than just pace. He reads the game really well, his positioning is fantastic and the other players respect him.

I think we need to make plans that he's getting on and I'm not sure he'll tolerate a full season in the PL, but 'get rid of him' and 'I'd rather see a young kid get a start than Monk' is being a bit naive.
 
not suggesting he's an auto starter at all, but i do see him fulfilling a role as a very experienced squad member. someone who can steady the side and give leadership in the last 20 mins
 
Perhaps Monk isn't being cast aside.Perhaps he has spoken to Buck and has decided he would prefer to be playing for Southampton every week than getting the occasional game for the Swans. It also depends how long he has left on his contract and what we could get for him now. No point paying wages and missing out on a nice transfer fee for the sake of having a player on the bench all season.

But if Monk wants to stay and try to get into the team, then I'm also happy with that. But everything needs to be taken into consideration.
 
I seem to remember when we came up to the Championship that there were a lot of people saying that monk would have to go as he was not up to the grade, boy did he prove people wrong.

Last year when monk was out injured am i right in saying we had quite a sticky patch, he deserves a chance has been a rock for us after a few bad injuries. not being sentimental just think he has done enough to be given a chance, i think that monk could surprise a lot of doubters and if he doesnt then he could sit down with the manager and decide on his future and where it lies.
 
I really rate Monk, he's a great player, great leader, has great positioning and despite getting on a bit these things all still apply. He's a true Jack legend and should stay to lead the team in the Premier League!!!
 
Bang on union, should in years to come be held in the same stature as the likes of allchurch, Robbie James etc for the work that he has done for our club

I've seen this comment a lot, but surely it's going to be quite a short season with 8 fewer league games to play and virtually no midweek games. Plenty of time for player recovery, I would have thought.

I think Blackpool only played 40 competitive games last season having gone out of the Carling Cup and the FA Cup at the first hurdle. We played 55.
 
It would be fitting for Garry Monk to get the chance to lead the Swans out as skipper for our first game of the Premiership. He absolutely deserves it. After that sentiment has to go out of the window - and Monk out of the team and perhaps out of the club if it's obvious that he's not up to it.

He's been a great and loyal player for us but I'm sure that he is professional enough to concede that we need the very best available to us, in every position, if we are to survive this first season. He'll not struggle to find a club happy to pay him a decent wage in the Championship if that is to be his future. He has my best wishes and sincere thanks however it pans out.

I completely agree Beppe. Monk is the captain who has kept his head down, worked his socks off and never complained about anything to my memory! A true professional and I think he will surprise a few people in the Premier League!
 
The thing is it's down to him at the end of the day , he is under contract so has a right to stay with us, but if he is not going to get game time he may feel it's time to move on, I agree that he has been a faithful and honourable guy who has helped us tremendously over the years, but things move on and players and clubs progress and a parting of ways is inevitable at some point.

A question though, if he stays and does not get much game time, should he be still our captain, the same for Tate who is our vice captain? I just can't see either being first team, sentiment is not an answer I am afraid.
 
We have to keep Monk, I think he will surprise a lot of people with how well he does and for me, should be starting every game. If it doesn't work out, put Caulker in there, but I think Monk should start.
He deserves it
