Where did I say he could? Although I guess the League Cup and FA Cup would be possibilities considering Wigan and Swansea were this years winners. My point was that sure he could stay at Celtic all his career and win trophies that mean **** all every year but it's hardly great glory is it.
I know not whether Hooper will or will not sign for us, what I do know is that all this speculation begs the question as to what our management were ****ing about at between 2008 and 2010 when a bid for him at Scunny could well have sorted our goalscoring problems out per se! Oh yes they were allowing themselves to be strung along by the likes of Fraizer Campbell's dad, and signing living legends like Kamel Ghilas! Meanwhile Celtic nipped in and nicked the player, for a bargain £2.4M, that could quite possibly have meant our last sojourn in the PL lasted for longer than just two seasons! In summary, thank **** we now have Steve Bruce and Assem Allam!
Apparently, in Hodgson's eyes that doesn't make them good enough. Wonder if they would have scored yesterday.
This is daft. Players like Hooper would come to Clubs like Hull City for one reason and one reason only; they are then in the shop window. At the moment he spends the vast majority of his time playing against League One standard opposition. There's only so far you can get on that. He's now been there and he's worn the t-shirt, time for the next challenge. Trouble is, he's unproven against Premier League defences so the Tottenhams, Liverpools and Newcastles of this world will not take a punt on him. BUT WE WOULD. So a season or two with us and the chance of impressing and who knows a big club might come calling. That's it in a nutshell, none of this crap about trophies, medals or crowds, that's all bollox.
I can't take anything seriously that Leicester fans say at the minute they think a championship goalkeeper would knock us back to stay in a league lower ! , however the whole point is if we were the only club in for Gary hooper and Celtic accepted an offer I would put money on it he would sign , the opportunity to showcase your talents against the best in the world and potentially move on to bigger and better things is enough to make any player want to move .
Am I the only one who doesn't even know Gary Hooper? I've heard the name maybe once but that's about it.
Hooper would not turn us down ffs And he would be a fantastic signing end of story Unless we make an official bid, we won't get him anyway so unfortunately this thread may as well end
despite the fact that Celtic are a massive club with CL action every season , Hull City are still about their equal in the transfer market though this is more down the the money , the league and the ability to progress in this "shop window" . . . Hull City are in the bottom 5 Prem clubs in terms of attractiveness to a player no doubt , but that still allows City to be challenging realisticly for the same players as Celtic .
Sorry for joining a lot of these threads so late - the time difference makes it inevitable most of the time. Can't say I knew anything about Hooper brfore this thread and I know that Youtube can of-course give a misleading impression. Having said that, I am super impressed with his control and no matter what level you're playing at, the required skill to control a long ball with one touch remains the same. Also, he clearly knows how to get in the right position, times his runs well (at least on the video footage displayed) and finishes nicely. I think he's become my favourite rumour.
Why would he be in a relegation battle. We had all this crap the last time we went into the PL, "you are going to be the next Derby"," You wont get any more points than Derby" and we managed to stay in for 2 seasons. Maybe we will be in a relegation battle but then again we might not. We where not the push over that everyone thought the last time we where in the PL and with the team we have now with some additions we are a better team than then so I don't think we will be a push over this time either.
Fully agree. I believe we are stronger now than when we went up before. Just need about 5 or 6 quality signings and we are there. Just get them done early - none of the final day ripoffs.
£9m for two players who've never played in the top flight is a hell of a punt and probably quite good news for us. Must be a bit galling when one of them went from Cardiff to Celtic on a free.
