I wouldn't say that Adam le Fondre has proved himself as a Premier League striker considering he's managed to come off the bench and score a few... Whenever he started, he always missed sitters and was near enough non-existent. He's an impact player definitely. Jay Rodriguez has proven he has what it takes, completely different to ALF.
You are joking right? Hooper plays in a team that has a budget like Manchester Utd playing in the local pub league - of course he looks good. Get him in the PL and I think he'd look mediocre for me, no thanks. Certainly not for the rumoured transfer fee.
You see, people say this, but just because he's in a 'worser' League, doesn't mean he's guaranteed to score goals does it? He still has to stick the ball in the goal. He clearly has a nack of scoring goals and is ready to make the step-up. The fact that he's scored 60 odd goals in 90 odd games, certainly suggests he's ready to have a pop.
I'd rather take a more guaranteed 'punt' on a proven Premier League scorer. Rather than a speculative punt on a Championship standard striker coming down from the West Highland League. Seriously the standard of football up there is ****ing shocking. 'Worser' does that word even exist?
I apologise for not sticking to standard English. I thought I was on a friendly football Forum, so I must be mistaken because it turns out I've ended up on a board for the 'immaculate grammatical users only'. Yes, Hooper has come from a **** League, and yes, I'd much rather we have a proven Premier League goalscorer but Gary Hooper clearly knows where the goal is and wouldn't be such a horrible occurrence should he join Hull City. Christ, last time we were in the Premier League, we had Daniel Cousin (ironically from the SPL), Caleb Folan, Marlon King, Richard Garcia etc and we managed to stay in the League. I think the only 'proven' striker we've had at that Level was probably big JVoH.
Hooper scored 4 champions league goals this season, he will certainly score against the likes of Palace and Norwich
Thats the point. We need strikers who are better than the bottom half Prem teams defenders. Hooper would score goals, but does he see us as big enough for him? I doubt he does.
He does, he really wants to play in the pl, he wants to challenge himself instead of staying at celtic at his peak, he has a big point to prove and as stated before he wants a crack at an england call up, he would not turn us down if our bid was accepted thats for sure, he scored as many goals as rhodes and austin in the champ in a worse scunthorpse side but now es played against the best teams in europe and in cup finals, yes the spl is poor but theres a reason he scored in the champs league too, hes quality
Hmmm though Frank McGarvey will have no say in his valuation , he says Hooper is worth his weight (71kg apparently) in gold today thats £2,088,746.36 at 24 crt £1,438,000.00 at 18 crt £0,719,230.00 at 9 crt
I'd say he's probably 9 carrots at the minute, 24 carrots would be world class, 18 carrots for a very good proven PL striker.
Apparently, according to former Celtic striker Frank McGarvey, Gary Hooper joining Hull would be a move that 'lacked ambition'. http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk/story-19136382-detail/story.html?#axzz2Uo3PRZRR I see what he means, moving from one of the weakest leagues in Europe to one of the best, that certainly is a lack of ambition...
You could actually flip that argument the other way. Moving from the Champions league to relegation fodder.
I love the excuse of the Champions League - ****ing CFR Cluj, BATE and APOEL get regular UCL football, would he go there over us?
Playing Champions League for a handful of games a season, non-league for the rest and earning peanuts. Compared to being in the biggest shop window in the World. Yes, I see your point.
Maybe not, but it's still a fantastic lure. Here's another one. 40/50k attendances or 15/20k attendances or, to put it bluntly, Celtic or Hull? Whichever way you look at it Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in Britain. I think Hooper is good enough to play for England and i'm surprised clubs like Villa, Newcastle, West Ham (the typical mid table PL club) has shown more of an interest. I think a club like those would show greater ambition.
yet none of those have expressed an interest the fulhams, the norwichs offer nothing more than us and trust me hooper would not say no to us he wants to play in the PL
Leicester in for him as well are they? As your better players haemorrhage away from the club, you are more likely to drop from the Championship, whilst we attract better players (with our Premiership status and quality manager) and are more likely to stay up in the Premiership. Just wait and see.
