Like another poster earlier, I am of an age that means I have a lot of respect for Celtic for being the first British club to make the breakthrough and win the European Cup (as it was called in 1967). Who could forget the excitement of watching in flickering black and white as Jimmy Johnstone and the other Lisbon Lions made history?

It's been a long time since then, but as Channon walked on H2O said, nothing Saints have done matches that achievement.

We still want Hooper though!

Fair play to this <ok>

It's easy for us to get bitter when a lot of English fans write our game off without watching it and we lose out when bidding for players when they get more money in the Championship to play in front of 15 - 20,000 every week (not you guys and West Ham - the majority of the rest of the league).

I really hope he stays - his link up play on Saturday after being out for a while was outstanding - if he goes, you guys have a belter on your hands.

I guess, too many people think Saints fans are arrogant, just because they are getting a bit enthusiastic, we have good reason. We don't even know if NA & NC have Hooper in their sights, lots of press speculation and no smoke without fire of course, if he is on the radar, they will move heaven and earth to get what they want, but won't be taken for a ride. If it is not to be, they will move on to another target. Time will tell, and if Hooper wants to play for England, not a good move coming to Southampton, their players have mostly been ignored no matter how good they are.

When we've played in two European Cup Finals we can dis them. Until then respect. Ask a foreigner to name Briish teams and Celtis would be in the list. Behave

If we got into europe every season playing poor scottish teams we might already have done so.

The local fanbase is the thing which we could never hope to replicate under similar conditions. Much too populous to be a two team city.

Ignorance really must be bliss:

Clyde
Celtic
Partick Thistle
Queen's Park
Rangers
St Mirren

<doh>

Must admit didn't know St Mirren was glasgow. Didn't count the lower league ones though.

It's like having Arsenal, tottenham and a bunch of Leyton Orients

Ninja'd the Brentford to LO because I couldn't remember how far our from the centre Brentford was :emoticon-0116-evilg

I cant believe the disrespect being shown to Celtic as a club by some posters here - this is why we get accused of arrrogance. As the first british team to win the European cup, in an age where you got one shot at each round, not a little mini league with seeding to keep the big boys away from each other until the lucrative knock out stages - Celtic deserve respect and admiration. True, scottish football ahd suffered from a lack of funds due to poor television rights, but to say the top scottish teams are no more than mid table championship level is ridiculous - that is saying Pompey are as good as celtic and rangers?

OK Celtic sometimes struggle to get into the knockout rounds, but remember our last foray into Europe - first round exit against Steua Bucharest. so we are not exactly steeped in european glory. The benefits of playing for saints:-

1) wages
2) in the shop windowfor england more than scottish football
3) chance to work with Sir Nigel
4) chance to play in the EPL
5) avoidance of sectarian violence

Reasons to stay at celtic :-

1) the chance to play for one of the truly great names in british football steeped in history
2) regular european football
3) the chance to play in one of the keenest fought club derbies 4 times every year! - atmosphere must be electric
4) best reason - you NEVER EVER have to go to Portsmouth.

why are all these GC ****s on here? feel like we've been invaded. the southampton board used to be clean. venom you can stay.

<laugh> Why do I get to stay? Is it my constant and unfaltering rationality?

It just so happens that most of the GC ****s are also Celtic/Rangers fans. This thread is on the Southampton & Celtic pages.
