If rooney played for any other club and any of those players played for united i suspect your opinion would be different.

If messi played for us he would be ****. Ronaldo did and guess what, everyone told us he was ****.

The highest level being the champions league and the premier league (or its counterparts).

Yeh hes been found out. Found out as the consistent as **** world class footballer he is.

The world cup is below the europa league in terms of football levels. Such poor quality football.

For the first two seasons at united, he WAS ****.
Ol' Twinkletoes. He really surprised everyone.
He just needed to find an end product, when he did, we knew about it.

Not quite true. He was far better than current youngsters. Januzaj, sterling etc. Not only did he help united win the fa cup but he almost fired Portugal to glory.

He was frustrating but hes quality was obvious from day one.

It was always amusing him doing several step overs trying to be all flashy- and then a no nonsense defender just nick the ball away from him

I loved Ronaldo as a youngster, the way he could just take on defenders and make a mockery of them was great to watch. He did lack the end product for a couple of seasons though, but that is to be expected of a teenage lad. He was only 18 and 19 in his first 2 years. It was after the World Cup in Germany the start of the 06/07 season that he really started to progress into the great player he is today. He was the star player for us that season getting 19 league goals (which is nothing for him nowadays) but it was the first season we really started to see how great he was. The last minute winner against Fulham at Craven Cottage when he ran from the half way line sticks in my mind. Chelsea where hunting us down in the title race, and that last minute goal kept us ahead of them. I remember jumping around like a lunatic when he smacked it in the bottom corner

<laugh> Rooney world class <laugh>. Love this debate every three weeks. it will only intensify as we get closer to the World Cup, where he can prove he's not all over again.

True. When the commentators said "Rooney has to be our Luis Suarez", I rolled around laughing for so long my elderly neighbours came around to see if I was having a seizure.

He was a seriously hot prospect as a lad, and my god what a player he could have been if he'd gone on from the chap at Euro 2004, but he's plateaued, and regressed in some areas. To be fair to him, he's been moved around, had to play so many different roles, but I don't think anybody knows what he actually is. Sir Alex tried making him a midfielder, then a winger, then a poacher, and it's not helped his development. Certainly, however, any talk of a free-role is ludicrous, because he's obviously not got the right sort of skills to suit that.

But, he's still a good player, and would probably make most of the other nationalities World Cup Squads, just not the ones most would pick to make the semi's.

  11. IMO, he is the worker in a front pairing. He suits older style football more than modern day stuff. He is not a lone striker, nor a winger and certainly not a creative number ten either. This is why I continuously say I wouldn't pick him for England, he simply does not fit the system. With Woy in charge, it wouldn't surprise me if he went back to 442 in which case, Rooney up top alongside Studge would be the pairing to have but he'd still be **** because we'd be playing a very dated system.

Fair enough if you don't think Rooney's world class, but to say he should be dropped is ridiculous. Your letting your Liverpool tinted glasses cloud your judgement. Rooney is a better footballer than anyone in the England team, even if he has regressed a little from his peak

A minority of fans might say hes not but hes regarded as one of the best footballers on earth by his fellow professionals. Players and manager alike.

Rooney for england could benefit from someone taking the pressure off him. Like rooney did for Ronaldo.

See how he fairs against Italy but my line up would be

    Hart

    Johnson
    Cahill
    Jagielka
    Baines

    Henderson/Wilshere
    Gerrard

    Chamberlain
    Barkley
    Lallana

    Sturridge

I'm a fan of Rooney. I'm just fed up of people expecting him to be England's savior and don't think he should have the burden of playing every single game.

Luckily for gerrard, rooneys taken the flack and attention away from him and others for years.

Gerrard is not ****e. The scousers and media overrate him definitely but he's not ****e and I really don't see Woy dropping his captain!

Besides, nobody has done anything for England!

    Hart

    Nobody (better than the alternative)
    Cahill
    Jag
    Shaw

    Sterling
    Rooney
    Lallana

    Sturridge.

Better playing with ten than with glen '?' johnson.

Hes ****e. Way way past his best and his performances are saves by his many, many penalties.

Time for him to go and the next generation to come in. Who? **** knows.
