maybe the previous letter wasn't a complaint, but a coded message. Williams read it and had to hold a pre-agreed piece of paper with holes in certain places, over the top to read our "come join us" message... ...oh Damn, it was probably NC who sent the letter. Would have been good in the movie version though.
Just a thought....maybe there is a buyer in the wings.......in which case a temporary CEO would be the order of the day perhaps!!
Or more likely they just want to get someone in the chair while they wait for the right man (or woman).
If it's stability that we want, then this is a very good interim appointment. I know Gareth's wife quite well, but this was one bit of insider information that even she didn't give out.
Never ever put a bean counter in charge of anything. They know the price of everything and the value of nothing. A bean counter should be the servant and never ever the master. The worst people I have ever worked for have been people with an accountancy background. Don't expect any new signings.
Cortese was a "bean counter" with his background in accountancy and banking. He didn't do too badly, from memory... (Before someone says it, no I am not suggesting that Rogers is going to be another Cortese for SFC)
That is quite true in my experience too actually. He is only a temporary one anyway. I have always had a giggle when I meet people at the top of the tree who are from an accountancy background and I ask them one question and always tell them a joke. The Question: if accountancy people are such good leaders, why do they always treat the machinery and buildings as 'assets' and the people get treated as 'costs'? The Joke: There are three types of accountants; those that can count and those that can't.
So let me get this right; off the back of the most successful period in our history for a generation (or more, considering where we started it), under the stewardship of a banker, your advice is: "never put a bean counter in charge of anything"?
I think Godders may have been a little sweeping with his generalization, although the few experiences I have had with a person at the top that has come through that route, haven't been successful. It doesn't mean they can't be, but hey .... it's Godders
I have worked for the NHS throughout the transition from the care-led institution it started out as, through the conception of the internal market and cash limits of the 1980's, through GP Fundholders, up to the present situation of Primary Care Trusts and Foundation status hospitals. Nowadays the professions striving to deliver the best care possible are often frustrated by the financial targets imposed on them by national government. Let no-one be fooled, the financial targets are the most important ones, and the ones for which hospitals can be put into administration for exceeding, despite the fact that financial planning is almost impossible in a completely demand-led industry. I think this is the sort of thing Godders is talking about, and I agree with him. In terms of running a football club, however, especially nowadays, financial probity is essential, and this is where Nicola, and by extension Katharina, have excelled.
A bit late on this one, but no problem with an interim CEO until the one we want is available or found. The new CEO doesn't have to be anything like Nicola as we are in a different position from when NC came in...rather the argument he used when swapping Adkins for Pochettino. Our needs are different perhaps.
