IS Obertan actually any good? Or does he just seem a bit naff in a high quality Man Utd team?

I'm really not sure anymore.

Bit of both. He has great potential, but lacks confidence in a Man U side where he was expected to be the creative spark.

think of Jonas with more pace and more tricks but even more frustrating and you get obertan. hes only 22 though, if we can polish him up a bit he might shine....(ahem...

Could go either way this signing, if he gets to his best some Man U fans were saying he could be incredible, but if he crashes and burns then we'd have a poor version of Gutierrez.

One thing for sure is there's no shame in not being able to get a game ahead of Young, Nani, Valencia, Park and Giggs.

Blanc on Obertan:

Essential snippet:

Blanc said:
I was surprised, but it is an unexpected chance for him to play with one of the best clubs in the world.

"Manchester United have been tracking him for a long time. They certainly hope to advance him, something that Bordeaux and Lorient have failed to do.

"He has the potential, but he must overcome psychological and mental challenges so he can express his true value.

Polish that crazy big bald head of his...the sun reflecting in opponents eyes could be lethal!

I've gone with quite chuffed.

Mainly because we need more on the right. Just cause he can't get into the Man U starting 11 does'nt mean he's rubbish. If he's pacey and doesn't crumple like paper on every challenge then I'll be happy. I still think we should put Jonas back there though, give that is where he was when he came to us, RB for Brazil last WC and he is right-footed.

Either way, happy to get more depth. Just need striker now and probably a LB

hes Argentinian not brazilian. i think he should stay on left if joses stays as they work very well together.

hopefully our french contingent will help him settle quickly and he'll slot right in.

I'm sure he'll recieve adequate motivation and encouragement from his teammates.

Tiote: "you'd better play out of your skin today lad"
Obertan: "What?"

Iv'e gone for better than nout. We need a right winger and who knows he might just shine at the Toon.

Bah, meet you half way at south american? lol

Have no idea how I continually mix those two up. Completely diffeent lol - I do know what I'm talking about really, honest haha

what's the story behind Obertan previously having played in a strikers role? (apologies if someone's already covered it, not in a browsing mood today) .. is there potentially some thought that he could act as cover there also?

In fact, as I type, why couldn't he be used up front instead of on the wing, since he really doesn't seem to have a cross within him - but can quite effectivley toe poke the ball over the byline without issue, shift him into the middle and there could be a few accidental goals in him after his skillful, dribbly runs? just a thought .. <ok>
