I understand where you are coming from but I don't want to see Walcott joining. We could certainly use his pace but the rest of his game is questionable, let only his consistency and mental state. IMO, he is a prima-dona - he thinks he is the dogs bollox but in fact he is (and I don't like using media terms often) a athlete in football boots! I'd prefer the idea of signing relatively unknown players and not only making them into stars but getting their best years out of them whilst we 're at it. Buying already established players is a lot more expensive and, sometimes, just as risky
I do agree with you, but my view is that we already have those younger, exciting players that could worth a bomb in 3-4 seasons - Sterling, Henderson (not exciting to watch yet, but the way he want's to play come's across as perfect for what i reckon Brendan's looking for, could be our equivalent of Joe Allen) Suso, Coates, Kelly, Shelvey, Teixeira... They won't all be mint, but i reckon at least 3 will end up being - some more likely than others. Everything you said about Walcott - I would also normally say, the amount i slag him off when he plays is ridiculous, BUT he's lightning fast and has assisted Van Persie a lot this season - Suarez's movement is as good as, if not a little bit better than RVP's - means there could be goals - especially with Borini hanging around the goal, which from watching Youtube he seems pretty good at.
What about Adam Johnson? Similar to Walcott but dribbling skills are a lot better, however goal scoring record isn't quite as good.
As IBWT said above, if we were to sign an established player then I'd prefer it to Adam Johnson. Yes, we lack pace but with the pass and move possession football we will hopefully be playing, pace is not an essential. Creativity, movement acceleration is what we need. Pace is obviously always useful though, especially for when we come up against the better sides in the league PS - I'd have said Johnson's goal scoring record is better but his assist tally isn't as great...???
Yeah i would have thought Johnson's minutes per goal were better than Walcott's, but i can't be bothered to check! Would definitely take Johnson over Walcott, but all the rumours re. showdown talks, etc have disappeared. I can't believe Mancini would let us have him either. Sturridge maybe, but he always looks selfish when i see him play, maybe it could be coached out of him though?
