    I bet he didn't say that Jack Butland was absolute ****e though, which he was. Should have stopped both Brazil's goals, and his distribution was appalling.

    And then some team poaches them after one good season. We get their upward trajectory, where they're raw but can't quite help us win things; then someone else plucks them away from us. It's like a lifelong game of snakes and ladders.

    Funding a team by producing players for others isn't a bad business strategy. The secret is to slowly improve your own league position at the same time.

    it looks like the trick might be to have a long term manager like moyes so you only lose one or two a season and they never have an excuse to leave en masse because the manager pissed off.

    Problem with Moyes, in hindsight, is he never really looked in danger of winning anything. So never got too successful that teams above poached him (until recently), and never failed badly enough to get sacked. But left Everton treading water a bit - again, in hindsight, as we can now see how much more dynamic they can be under a new manager.

    are we ready for a martinez though?

    if the probable happens we're going to lose many more players than everton ever lost in a season.
