  4. It was on this article. 3 neg rep points <doh>

I dont understand why people are allowed to get away with this. I must have had at least 200 neg rep points from random people calling me a ***got or just making stupid comments like they're going to rape me or dislike me.

Hi Guys I'm an exiled Fulham fan living near Morpeth.
Thanks for positive comments about my team.

Many of you are right that we keep calm and quiet, do our transfers under the radar and the fans appreciate how much Mo AlFayed has done for us - we were in the 4th division (or whatever it was called at the time) when he bought us. Although MAF put a lot of his own cash into the club initially, he now expects (rightly we think) that the club should be run on a sustainable basis.

We have a wage cap of 40k, which sometimes makes transfer market very tough - but we get team players rather than prima donnas. On this basis we were vvery proud to reach Europa League final, though gutted to lose in extra time.

I'll see you @SJP in Sept. (btw last year your stewards were having a laugh with us saying could we be the opposition every week - coz there was no trouble. Though I did see them chuck one lad out for Smoking in the bogs! really! hahaha)

Yes you do seem like a quiet team who goes about their business in the correct manner, and you have a few good season since Hodgson came in as manager.

I'm not a Norwich fan, though I can see why you'd think I was, given the username. It has nothing to do with football though.

    Anyway...
The whole point of football is to win. Just being there to make up the numbers is pointless. It's better to try and fail, than to just sit and be nothing.

Sooner or later the owners of Chelsea and Man City will get bored, and the money will dry up. If the clubs below them have shown ambition and built a strong team then they'll be able to get right up in the league when that time comes.

You just stand still and maintain a team that won't get you any further than you already are, then you're just going to be overtaken by the teams below. Regardless of what's happening above you.

Also this discussion has been sidetracked a little, as what I was disagreeing with was this:
If you can achieve top 10 regularly then you can push on to to better than that - To not do so just shows a massive lack of ambition, and a lack of self-respect.

I don't have any problem specifically with Fulham - Just this attitude (that may or may not even apply to them) that to just 'be there' is enough.

My apologies for mistaking you as a Norwich fan, I'd come to realise after seeing other posts of yours since that you were a Newcastle supporter.

And to a degree I understand what you're saying, though sometimes I think its hard to distinguish which teams are trying to win or improve, and which ones are phoning it in. I just think labelling Fulham as one of the clubs who aren't aspiring to improve is a bit unfair (and you did say in your last post that it may not apply to them, so I recognise that) because for them to establish themselves a mid-table club competing in Europe would be an improvement from where they were just a few years ago, and I think thats about the best most clubs outside the big few can really aspire to at this point in time.

I agree that 7th or so is all most clubs can realistically aim for at the moment. Sooner or later though one of the top clubs will slip up and have a bad season though, and if the lower clubs have been building, and have the right attitude, they'll be in a prime position to punish them for it. But if you run your club with the mentality that just being there is enough, you're not gonna get anywhere.

If a clubs fanbase has a strong desire to win, then that will transfer (to some extent) to the players, and spur them on to do better in matches. However if a clubs fanbase has the mentality that just finishing 15th or something is enough, then the players are more likely to get complacent, and not put in as much effort. I don't mean to sound like a self-help book here, but the only limits are those which you place upon yourself. If you believe a midtable finish is all you can achieve, then it's the highest you ever will achieve. Etc.

There is one thing I said earlier that I'd like to take back though, and that's about the whole point of football being to win. It's not. Being entertaining is the whole point. Even if a team is crap, they should still go out there with a bit of spirit, rather than just accepting it.

To be the well run clubs in the PL will be the ones who take advantage when the money goes belly up, will the owners of clubs like Man City and Chelsea want to know anymore. It will probably be the clubs who've looked after their money well who can take advantage clubs like Fulham or Everton.

Thanks for such an insightful contribution...because it's really manager interviews that determines what happens on the pitch.
Funny how people twist arguments to suit situations...I'm sure you'd threaten murder if a Michael Jackson statue was erected outside SJP
