I remember not too long ago we had 7000 turn up to Craven Cottage. I got tickets in the home end and kept quiet only to see loads of Rangers in there with me. We lost 1-0. Sadly people go to games to watch a good product and if it's crap they won't bother. I go to as many games as possible but recently I cannot be bothered. why waste my whole day and money, when the players can't even put in a shift or our dumb manager puts the wrong team out.
When the Fulham game is on I will be chopping logs for an old couple. I will check the score after. That's how I feel about my team at the moment.

I've got a ticket but not sure if I'll go for the reasons mentioned above. I wasn't going to go yesterday but it got to 12:00 pm and decided I would, I'm glad I did, I think. The problem with following a club like ours is that you have to suffer the constant lows to enjoy the rare highs. If you don't go and you miss one of the highs ( Chelsea 1-0 away for example ) the next one may be a long time in coming. We've been bashed at Fulham more than Wayne Sleep's bum flaps for the last 40 odd years, but maybe next Saturday will be the one when you get to say 'I was there.'

Let's hope so. We must be due for a win there some time soon. :)

I'd completely forgotten the 4-0 last year ever happened. Both that and the 6-0 were obviously appalling but the one we lost 3-2 under 'arry when Remy missed a penalty possibly was the worst because we really should have won. It was the nadir for Chris Samba if I recall.
On TV too. Samba had an absolute shocker.

The odd thing being, each time was under a different manager and with completely different personnel. The Fulham sides were probably vastly different too. Their luck must be due a turn this time

For some players, just pulling on a hooped shirt is the kiss of death for their performance. It's like sticking a rock of kryptonite in Superman's pocket.

How many decent players have come, put on the hooped shirt and turned to into Sunday morning football overnight. Hulse keeps springing to mind (and that's the first and last time I'll compare him to Superman)

We always say that but (probably) there are more who did just fine eg Remy, Buszacky, Gino, WIld Thing, Gallen, OBZ, AJ (for the 3 games he was not sick!), Ale, Clint, George Santos (yes, I am joking, don't worry!!) and even Barton. Other too no doubt. Samba was probably the most disappointing because he was much heralded with a fine reputation and played terribly all the time.

I take your point that when looking at our success to failures, we have to look at the failure to successes.

Of those you quote, Clint was doing well at Palace before he came. Fulham had their money's worth from OBZ and AJ too (sometimes at our expense) We got value from Bobby (and in more than THAT match), but AJ was a kryptonite candidate. Remy too, was doing pretty well before he came so I don't think he made his name with us. Agree, Gazza Ainsworth flourished under us. Barton was a frustratingly good/bad with us as he was with anyone before imo

Just out of interest, how would you rate Mackie in this context?
For me, when he first came from Plymouth, I was immensely disappointed because I'd never heard of him. Not sure if he improved but I came to like his work rate.
This time round might well have been a mistake I fear.

I'd not heard of him at Plymouth either. Definitely a positive for his "never say die" attitude during his time with us under NW. After he'd gone, we should have left it at that (I'm speaking with the benefit of hindsight, but I had reservations at the time of his second signing).

I loved him for that second goal against Derby in that season with milliseconds on the clock! We seem to be a bogey team for Derby. There was that time and another maybe....?!

I seem to recall, very very soon after he had been signed and we had effectively thrown away our lifeline by relying on him, Harry piped up that he was both injured and knackered having been dragged out of the Russian close season. So why was he signed if they knew all that?

And wasn't he resold back to the same Club for about the same price?

Apparently it was 1980 in front of just 11,539.

We seemed to have their number away 1930-31 but lost at home.

The game that sticks in my mind is 1972 when Martyn Busby broke his leg in a horrific challenge I think with Fulham's Paul Went. The images of his leg in the papers the following day were awful. We went on to lose 2-0.

I don't think it's sad that people aren't interested in watching crap. It is sad that they are offered crap to watch. And that we call it 'product' (not a criticism, I do too).

Busby would have been one of the finest players we've ever had but for that tackle. Never the same after.
