To think if we could have scored just two more goals in the 4 we’ve played, we could be on another 4 points
You’re creating chances but your finishing is badly letting you down. I was debating on the Sunderland board today about Burnley as people were saying they’re anti-football and I was arguing against it. They’ve been decent in every game they’ve played and they’ve had the toughest start out of all promoted clubs, so I done the Sunderland and Burnley stats side by side to show that. I’ve just added yours in, so you can see for yourselves. These stats exclude penalties. Burnley - 30 shots on goal. 9 have been on target. 4 goals scored. Sunderland - 37 shots on goal. 9 on target. 4 goals scored. Leeds - 44 shots on goal. 8 on target. 0 goals scored. Obviously there’s variables in this which could be viewed in many ways. Such as, are you having unrealistic attempts at goal rather than trying to create better opportunities. However, 0 goals from 44 attempts shows that you need to be finishing better and the early signs of it going to be a major problem are there.
very early days and heavily skewed by being a few games and varied opposition but: expected goals for… Leeds ‘should’ have scored more than Burnley and Sunderland. expected goals against. Sunderland are slightly better than Leeds but both are top half of the table in terms of what they ‘should’ have conceded. I’d say that’s a big positive for both teams at this level. Burnley are actually bottom of expected goals against (ie have the worst/highest expected goals against). expected points: Leeds 5.3, Sunderland 4.6 Burnley 1.9
