Ryan Williams makes his debut, at last. please log in to view this image Here is a round up of how everyone got on, from the Club: "Ryan Williams came on in the 52nd minute to make the first league appearance of his loan spell at Oxford United and help preserve its unbeaten start to the season. United started off with three wins from three to top the Sky Bet League Two table, but was held to a 2-2 draw against ten-man Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday in a dramatic game. Wycombe took the lead on 42 minutes as on-loan Billy Knott flicked on a header inside the box and former United forward Dean Morgan headed home. United were level shortly after half-time however as Charles Dunne was sent off for an elbow on Alfie Potter, then Danny Rose netted his second goal in two games as he curled in a wicked free-kick which evaded all the players in the box and found the net. Williams arrived for his league debut in place of Asa Hall, but Wycombe took the lead when Morgan was pulled back in the box and stepped up to convert the resulting penalty with ease. Controlling the attacks for the rest of the game, it took United until the fifth minute of injury time to find a way back. Dave Kitsonâs flick on found James Constable, who set up Johnny Mullins to slot home a deserved equaliser. Another thriller, in the Sky Bet Championship, came as Dan Burnâs Birmingham City were beaten 3-2 by Leicester City. Burn played all 90 minutes of an exhilarating contest which saw three late goals at the King Power Stadium. Matt Green put the Blues ahead in the 12th minute and, despite a host of pressure from the home side, it stayed that way until the 78th, when Jamie Vardy netted an equaliser from the edge of the area. David Nugent then took over and set up Andy King for a clinical finish in the 82nd minute, before scoring from the penalty spot in the 90th after Neil Eardley had fouled Lloyd Dyer. The Blues hit back immediately when substitute Chris Burke netted a minute later, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation. In Norway, [BJosh Pritchard[/B] could not continue his midweek heroics as Tromso IL continued to struggle in the Tippeligaen with a 1-0 defeat to FK Haugesund. The home side netted the only goal of the game on 40 minutes through Dusan Cvetinovic and Pritchardâs half-time arrival could not inspire Tromso to an equaliser."
Well that was quick - Marcus Bettinelli played for the U21s against Norwich on Monday and for Accrington Stanley (on loan) against Cardiff in the Capital One cup last night. "Accrington manager James Beattie was happy with Marcus Bettinelli's debut as Stanley went out of the Capital One Cup against Premier League side Cardiff. The Fulham keeper joined on a month's loan just hours before their 2-0 loss. "He had no chance with the goals but the rest of his display was very good," Beattie told BBC Radio Lancashire. He has been signed as cover for Ian Dunbavin, who is likely to be out for four to six weeks with a knee injury. Bettinelli, 21, played 35 league games in a loan spell at Conference Premier side Dartford last season and has not yet featured for Fulham's first team." Fulham boys still in Europe: Omri Altman's Maccabi Tel Aviv drawn into a group with Bordeaux, Apoel and Frankfurt and Josh Pritchard (who has had his loan deal with Tromso extended) will face Spurs in the Europa League
Max Obershmidt has gone on loan to Celtic until the end of the year - please log in to view this image "Fulham Football Club can announce that Academy goalkeeper Max Oberschmidt has joined Celtic on a loan deal until 31st December 2013. Oberschmidt joined Fulham from FC Energie Cottbus four years ago and was sent out on loan to non-league Harrow Borough FC earlier this month, but the German youth international has now cut his time there short and moved to the Scottish champions to provide cover for Fraser Forster and Lukasz Zaluska. The 18-year-old suffered a series of injuries which hindered his development early in his Fulham career but has shown great potential and, as a result of the Hoops’ qualification to the Group Stage of the Champions League, Max will get a chance to play in the inaugural UEFA Youth League: an Under-19 competition which will run parallel to that of the senior tournament. Celtic will face the youth sides of Barcelona, AC Milan and Ajax and the Club wishes Max luck as he gets a chance to play in European competition."
Good news for the lad and also for us, with a bit of luck. Very good experience to play against those teams.
His loan has now been confirmed as for the rest of the season - "The Club can announce that young goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli will stay at Accrington Stanley on loan for the season. Bettinelli, who was given a squad number ahead of the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season, was sent on an emergency one-month loan to the Sky Bet League Two side but both parties have now agreed to extend it until the end of the campaign. The 21-year-old has already played two games for Stanley, a Capital One Cup defeat against Cardiff City last week and Saturday’s late 1-0 defeat to Burton Albion in the league where he was Man of the Match. The son of Fulham Academy goalkeeping coach Vic, Marcus played 35 league games in a loan spell at Conference Premier side Dartford last season and has been signed as cover for Ian Dunbavin, who has been sidelined with a knee injury."
And here is the latest round up from the Club on how the lads in domestic leagues got on at the weekend - "Dan Burn helped Birmingham City to pick up their first home point of the season as Blues were held 1-1 by Ipswich Town in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday. please log in to view this image Burn played all 90 minutes in the centre of defence but was unable to stop Christophe Berra from scoring a stooping header in a crowded six-yard box on the half-hour mark to put the away side ahead. A solid defensive effort then saw David McGoldrick miss two headers before Darren Randolph tipped his shot wide in the second half. Blues then made them pay as Chris Burkeâs 76th-minute shot took a huge deflection off Ipswich defender Ryan Tunnicliffe and went in past goalkeeper Dean Gerken to make it 1-1. Ryan Williams was an unused substitute as Oxford United kept their unbeaten run going with a 1-1 draw against Rochdale, but slipped off top spot in Sky Bet League Two. James Constable stabbed home a 24th-minute opener after Danny Rose's initial effort had been saved, but Rhys Bennett's cross was headed past Ryan Clarke by Matthew Lung shortly after the break to level the scores. An injury-time winner from Burton Albion stopped goalkeeper Marcus Bettenelli from claiming his first point as an Accrington Stanley player. Accrington, who are rock bottom of League Two, had decent possession in the second half but were unable to threaten the goal and James Gray hit the woodwork to come the closest to opening the scoring. However, after a head injury to Burton's Jimmy Phillips saw nine minutes of added time, Adam Reed tapped home from close range with one minute remaining after a fine cross from Damien McCrory."
FULHAM striker Cauley Woodrow will be spending the week training at Southend United, with the view to joining the Shrimpers on loan. Blues boss Phil Brown is keen to bolster his options by bringing the 18-year-old to the club. “Cauley is a prodigious talent and if I could I would be bringing him in to play against Morecambe at the weekend,” said Brown. “However, it’s been agreed that he will be spending a week training with us for him to have a look at us but if everything goes to plan he will be coming in on loan when the window reopens on September 9.” Woodrow joined Fulham for £440,000 from Luton Town in March 2011 and scored 20 goals in 19 games for their under-18 side last season. Woodrow, who watched Blues’ 2-1 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, has also been referred to as the next Teddy Sheringham. Source: http://www.echo-news.co.uk/sport/10647708._/
The Club have confirmed that he has gone on a month long loan - "The Club can announce that Under-21 striker Cauley Woodrow has joined Southend United on a one-month loan deal." Source: http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2013/september/02/cauley-on-loan please log in to view this image I will simply repeat that I do not believe these short term loans benefit anybody.
And Marcello Trotta has gone back to Brentford until January 2014 - "The Club can announce that striker Marcello Trotta has re-joined Sky Bet League One side Brentford on loan until 5th January 2014. Trotta netted six goals in 22 appearances while on a temporary spell at Griffin Park in 2012/13, with a further three in five cup games, and helped them to the League One Play-Off Final which they lost to Dan Burnâs Yeovil Town. The 22-year-old Italian impressed during his time with The Bees but, with the arrival of Darren Bent this summer, has found his chances of First Team football limited in SW6 even though he scored against Dartford for the Under-21s in a friendly in early August."
Just bloody release the guy already! It's obvious he's not going to make it to the first team and these constant loans are pointless.
Cauley Woodrow made his debut, starting for Southend at the weekend and Ryan Williams weighed in with an assist for Oxford. Here is the full round-up from the Club: [/I]"Ryan Williams provided an assist as a late substitute as Oxford United continued its 100 per cent away record in Sky Bet League Two with a 2-0 win over Burton Albion. Fulham beat Burton on penalties in the Capital One Cup two weeks ago, but the U’s had a man advantage to see them off when Ian Sharps was given his marching orders in the first half for a clash with Dave Kitson. Alfie Potter netted four minutes after the restart and Danny Rose struck just five minutes from time after a burst of pace from Williams saw him get free and swing in a dangerous cross which was stabbed home from close range to seal the win and keep Oxford in second place behind Chesterfield. It was top against bottom in League Two as Chesterfield saw off Marcus Bettinelli’s Accrington Stanley 1-0. The goalkeeper was powerless to stop Tendayi Darikwa’s effort after a shot from Marc Richards had hit the post and rebounded back to him, and Chesterfield substitute Eoin Doyle hit the post late on to almost double the lead. Cauley Woodrow made his debut for Southend United in League Two, playing 61 minutes in a 3-1 defeat by Morecambe. Former Shrimper Kevan Hurst struck in the first half as his deflected shot found the net, but Andrew Fleming hit two goals either side of half-time to put Morecambe in control, and Jack Sampson added a third with a deflected long-range effort. Woodrow went close when he forced a great save from Barry Roche, but the comeback proved too hard to complete. Marcello Trotta’s return to Brentford in League One was cut short after 27 minutes as he was forced to come off against Bradford City when goalkeeper David Button was controversially sent off for a foul on Nahki Wells. The Bees’ unbeaten start to the season was then halted as Bradford put in four goals: two from James Hansen, and one each from Wells and Garry Thompson. Goalkeeper Max Oberschmidt saved a penalty as Celtic Under-17s beat Airdrie 3-0 at Barrowfield on Sunday in the SPFL Under-19 league."[/I]
Cauley Woodrow is learning the hard reality of League football as Southend lost again tonight. This time 1-0 at home to Scun.thorpe. The home team had the best of the first half with Cauley playing a bit wider than normal but linking well at times with his partners. Horrible night for football though and in his only real chance of the game, he slipped on the greasy surface when one on one with the last defender. Shortly after losing that goal in the 65th minute, he was substituted by Phil Brown. Cauley is obviously still trying to get his bearings but he is getting game time, and I'm sure has the determination to benefit from these experiences.
Here is the round-up from the Club on how the other lads got on: “Four (other) Fulham youngsters were in action for their loan sides at the weekend, with Dan Burn involved in the most high-profile match as Birmingham City were defeated by Queens Park Rangers in the Championship. Burn came face-to-face with his former Whites colleague Bobby Zamora at Loftus Road, but it was Zamora’s strike partner Charlie Austin who gave the home side the lead with a close-range effort shortly after the interval. The Blues had their chances and can feel aggrieved at losing a match in which they hit the woodwork, had a goal disallowed and saw a late penalty shout waved away, while Burn’s afternoon was concluded with a stoppage-time booking for a foul on Austin. Back in League Two, Oxford United continued their unbeaten start to the season as they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Cheltenham Town, with Ryan Williams coming on as a substitute with little more than a quarter of an hour to play. Byron Harrison had handed the hosts an early lead, but Dave Kitson’s first goal of the season brought the U’s level on 34 minutes. A poked effort from Terry Gornell restored Cheltenham’s advantage just after half-time, but a powerful Johnny Mullins shot meant the points were shared and ensured Oxford remained second in the table. Elsewhere in the division, Marcus Bettinelli was in goal for Accrington Stanley as they were defeated 2-1 away to Hartlepool United. Stanley remain rooted to the bottom of League Two on a solitary point after Jon Franks and Andy Monkhouse put Pools in control of the contest, with James Gray’s second-half finish proving to be nothing more than a consolation. The only win of the weekend for a Fulham man came in Norway, as Josh Pritchard’s Tromso secured an impressive 1-0 victory over Tippeligaen leaders Rosenborg. The midfielder picked up a booking during his 78 minutes on the pitch before he was substituted, as Magnus Andersen’s 24th-minute strike secured a big three points for Tromso.”
A bit 'Desperate Dan' last night: please log in to view this image "Birmingham City’s winless run in the Sky Bet Championship continued on Tuesday evening as they left Burnley with a 3-0 defeat. Dan Burn played for the full 90 minutes but it was a night to forget for Blues, with manager Lee Clark describing it as their “worst performance of the season by a million miles” after the game. The tone for the match was set as early as the third minute when Clarets striker Danny Ings latched onto Sam Vokes’ pass before firing beyond Darren Randolph. City fought for a way back into the match and almost equalised through Burn’s defensive partner Kyle Bartley, but instead found themselves two down just seconds after the restart when Scott Arfield headed in. Ings got his second goal eight minutes later to compound the Midlands outfit’s misery, with Sheffield Wednesday at home on Saturday the first opportunity for Blues to improve on their 21st placing in the table."
Ah, Danny Ings. He was great at Bournemouth, and part of me still wishes we'd signed him a couple of years ago. He's doing well now in the Championship, but maybe the Premier League would have been a step too far (as it was for Vokes with Wolves. He's another one who looked promising to me when he broke into the AFCB first team as a teenager.
The Daily Star is saying today that Newcastle, Sunderland, Aston Vlla and Crystal Palace are all showing loads of interest. Sounds as though you're 'scouting' was correct Captain and we have missed out - his value presumably will now have increased a tad!!
As an 18 year old in League one, he was awesome. You can never really tell which ones are ready to step up, but he looked like the real deal back then. That said, rumoured interest from Newcastle et al still doesn't prove that he's got what it takes. We'll have to wait and see.
