It was £113 million net not £127 million. We started out at -£32 million. (What was left from the Coutinho sale) Starting point +£35 million. Recouped £142 million Spent. £75 million. Net spend. -£32 million. Spent. £177 million Recouped £32 million. Total net spend. £113 million.
Remember when looking at profit/loss... Wages are often just as much a factor as transfer costs. I haven't seen the numbers recently, I know a few years back we weren't in the top 4 spenders in wages, we're probably higher up now though. Maybe 3rd behind the Manchester clubs if I had to guess.
You're also looking at a good 10-15% of the 'headline' amount added on for agent fees, then there's VAT on top that, VAT on the headline amount, insurance, signing on fees, bonuses, etc... A player touted as say 50mill will cost you upwards of 70mill before you even think about putting wages on top of that. Net spends is a useful gauge, but is nowhere close looking at how much we've spent
Suarez, Ward and Ibe too. Well we made profit off the latter two, the impact the first one had on the team was pretty obvious.
Comolli was on borrowed time after dalglish. Carroll =11 mil loss Adam downing henderson(opinion of those.in ear of owners was he was useless, same person being called.genius today) and that list does.go on. doni Enrique coates bellamy Comolli more than anything buggered up the Suarez evra incident and.imo that's why he was got shut of. if you.look above.. long term Henderson worked out. Suarez was class but trouble and was out so much it hurt us. but the owners clearly felt he just bought what Kenny wanted and most were gash.
Other 2 was potential though. Bit harsh to be critisised for that in same way not buying ronaldo when had chance.
To be fair, only 1 was a crook the other was gullible. Glad both are nothing more than a bad memory though
I wonder how things would have been different if we got DIC. They had a little financial trouble for a few years, but no doubt they would have tried to buy us a few titles like Chelsea and City. This CL was better for not having been bought in by money we didn't earn... But... It would have been nice if we could be saying 24 and 8 by now.
Every signing is for potential, you wouldn't sign a player for something they've already done. The hope is, they can do something good for us.
No idea, his main signing Yeah but we made £25m profit on them. That's what Man Utd did so well over the years they were successful, I think. Sold fringe/youth players for decent money.
