Liverpool's way isn't Brendan's cup of tea , I feel the Reds & Buck might be in for a bit of trouble . Good luck though & leave the 4 million on the desk .. cheers !
No anger from me as i think its an exellent move for brendan, it came earlier than expected but that is purely down to how brendan has done over the last two seasons.. fantastic oppertunity for him and i hope he does well...we were only a stepping stone for him as he made that clear when he joined us...
I don't really get your point. Surely if you could have earned that money without the 40 years work you would have? He can't have earned more than £2mil so far. When you consider the guy will probably be hoping to live to at least 70 year of age, that's £2mil split over 30 years (ignoring his new contract). That's just under £67k per year. Not a bad wage but hardly luxury compared to his peers, players etc. His signing on fee with Liverpool, basic wage and bonuses will make a huge difference to that, and so i think the securing of his future point is relevant. Also if Rodgers tries to get us to play good football, then he will be afforded plenty of time, by the fans at least. Hodgson is the only manager we were opposed to and he still got til Christmas plus a poor summer window/preseason. @Ctrl Freak... who exactly is a bigger proposition right now in terms of manager's job? Can't see how that one is debatable. Many fans like to believe we're in disarray and everything is going wrong and obviously we'll argue otherwise. From our point of view we had idiot owners, an idiot manager and were close to administration. We have now gotten rid of our debt, are getting big new commercial investment, are seeing investment in the team and at least have promises that progress is being made on the new stadium/refurb of Anfield. We may have had a weak 2nd half of the season last year but we still finished above you guys and had 2 long cup runs to go with it. That's not a dig, and you guys are definitely going places, but surely you can't argue Swansea are a better proposition than Liverpool to a manager with no particular affiliation to either club.
Good luck to him and I hope it works out but not at our expense in terms of impact on current players. You can predict Brendan's 1st after match interview on MOTD after game 1 next season - its bound to include "I thought we were fantastic the way we controlled the game" "I've a great set of players here" "Liverpool is a fantastic place and a fantastic club with fantastic supporters" Just hope its not after we played them at Anfield lol
"What a patronising thread." Indeed it is, and it has just been announced on Sky Sports news that 3 of our back room staff are going, and just like the Martinez exit, the hemorrhage starts, I've had enough of these two bit managers coming in and ripping the heart out of our club, and it's been once to many for my liking, I'm not in the least bothered about Rodgers going, but I am bothered about the Swansea staff he takes, and todays announcement is just the start, the Vultures are flying around ready to pick off our squad members next, so forgive me for not wanting anything to do with this clap trap of a thread, and I hope that Rodgers crashes and burns at Liverpool. It's clear that Huw Jenkins needs to move very quickly to appoint a manager, to stop any loss of players, but I fear the worst, but one thing I do know, is that our board will move heaven and earth to secure the future of Swansea City, so just shut the door behind you Brenda on your way out, your tea was well overrated!................
I've seen some of your pathetic posts. It's like when one of our fans calls SAF 'Slur Alex' or a Utd fan calls KD 'Queen Dogleash', calling him 'Brenda' really is childish and sad. Honestly, have a look at yourself. I mean do you really think all your success is down to Rodgers' backroom staff but none of it was due to him? Your 'look at me' font says it all. It isn't meant to be a patronizing thread as i said, i was merely being sympathetic as sometimes close to the event it's easy to get angry and wind yourself up when you don't need to. It was also designed to show that many of us reds are grateful so you don't need to come onto our board and spam us with abuse.
You know when a poster has lost the plot, when they pick you up on your spelling or font! Now that's what I call pathetic!...................
Well said, mate A 'look-at-me font' indeed. We're not all like this prick, trust me. One of the worst tossers we've got on here. These are the same ungrateful twats who won't give a flying **** about Brighton fans if we prise Poyet from them. It's a food chain and I'm pragmatic enough to realise that "there's always a bigger fish". Unfortunately, you need to be a bit grown up to understand that and this twonk is one who definitely is not.
Nips, Don't take Dragon to heart, he's passionate and means well. Like the rest of us he's worried about the repercussions of Rodgers leaving, rather than the departure itself. We are a touch tender about this following the departure of Martinez and, to a lesser extent, that of Sousa. We are more gutted about the manner of his departure and the timing of it. Our second season in the PL is absolutely vital to the future of our club and Rodgers knows this all too well - yet he chose to abandon us chasing blind ambition and greed. You might argue that he has a right. Well consider this. When we plucked him off the managerial scrapheap, which is exactly where he was after Reading sacked him, by his own admission he was unemployable. Nobody wanted him but we gave him his chance, painfully aware of the Watford posters telling us he would dump us as soon as it suited him. It was the luckiest move of his life because he INHERITED a team that knew all about possession football and the passing ethic because Martinez, Sousa and others before them had indoctrinated that philosophy into our players. Rodgers has quietly preened himself on the accolades our team has received for their football, as though he was the one who created it. A total load of balls!!! We were playing that way years before most of us had ever heard of Rodgers, admittedly without the success we subsequently achieved. What he did do was polish and fine tune what was already there. What he did NOT do was create it or invent it. When he tried to do the same with Reading, who did not have players conversant with that style, he failed completely and was kicked out on his arse. Which was where we found him - a sacked nonentity that couldn't find a job in football because no one wanted him. Sounds harsh? Maybe, but true just the same. Without us, there would be no Liverpool for him. There is every chance that he would still be scratching around looking for a way back into football, quite possibly coaching some team's youngsters. We gave him the opportunity to re-establish his self esteem, rediscover his pride and gave him full licence to work with our talented squad, and they ARE talented, to build something good together. Well, it worked. The chemistry was there. The players responded to him because he was preaching their kind of football and it translated into two glorious seasons which eventually saw us achieve a comfortable mid table position in the Premier League. But make no mistake, the players can take as much credit for that as Rodgers. So how do we feel now? Simply this. We feel that Rodgers owed us just one more season for us to try and establish ourselves in the Premier League. The second season is well documented as being critical and, if we survive that, there is every chance that our future could be secured for years to come. But his leaving now puts all that in jeopardy and HE KNOWS IT. He is prepared to sacrifice the well being of the very club that plucked him from obscurity, picked him up from the gutter, dusted him off and gave him his big chance, all in the name of his own ego, greed and blind ambition. Jeez!!! He really is some piece of work! We are not stupid people at Swansea and we realise that, as a small club, we will always fall prey to the attentions of bigger clubs in terms of our players and manager and so forth. All we were asking, indeed expecting, of Rodgers, was one more season at this level to establish ourselves. He could then have moved on to bigger things with the good wishes and blessing of the Swansea faithful. Such is life and we recognise that. You can argue that he had to grab the opportunity whilst it was there but such is the nature and demands of football, there will always be opportunities for talented people - not only here but abroad in Spain and Italy etc and Rodgers speaks both languages. In other words, something would have presented itself in time, probably sooner rather than later. He is still young and can afford to wait a year or two and we believe he owed us that. What now? Well, he's gone and we shall miss him in a football sense but not, so far as many of us are concerned, as a decent human being with grace enough to do the right thing by the club, players and supporters who took him to their hearts and gave him his chance. He patently failed us in that respect. Now it remains to be seen if he compounds his "crime" against us. Not content with leaving us in disarray, it is rumoured that he might come cherry picking the odd player. Maybe not as I assume that our Chairman would have marked his card on that, but, as I write, there is now considerable doubt on whether Siggurson will join us after the fee and personal terms have already been agreed. We were counting heavily on this player, who would have been a brilliant signing for us. Now it might not happen leaving us yet another problem to deal with. We will deal with it but I doubt whether Rodgers will be remembered here at Swansea quite as fondly as he imagines.
Ivor - big admirer of yours and I agree with much of the above, but you should have left out the 'We': "We feel that Rodgers owed us just one more season for us to try and establish ourselves in the Premier League" No. Sorry. We took a chance on him and he returned that faith by gaining promotion and keeping us there in style. Job done in my book. As for "We are not stupid people in Swansea..." check some of the child-like posts that have graced this board. DragonPhill has even making a tit of himself on the Liverpool board. As I've said, some people need to grow up. As I've said above it's a food chain and it's ugly at times. Will you cry for Brighton fans if Poyet comes? No offence but I seriously doubt it. That's just the way of things.
The only twat around here is you oh knackered one, you've proved that time and again, you think we should be grateful for what's happening at the club this minute? we promoted Martinez from within the club, and we took Rodgers off the street, so, so much for you trying to make us look like some big club vulture, which we are not, if anyone needs to grow up it's you with your one eyed childish view of Rodgers, and all that he is supposed to have done, all he did was reap what was sown by Martinez and Sousa, but your to stupid and thick to see that, and we don't need some condescending thread like this at this moment in time, no matter how well thought it might be!.....................
Well it's a view shared by others, including the billionaire owners of Liverpool and the majority of their fans. Go figure. As for 'growing up', I'm a pragmatist - you don't find many of them in the school playground. Calling someone 'Brenda' when their name is Brendan on the other hand... Btw one thing we can agree on for once. If Rodgers comes cherry picking players then any goodwill from people who are like minded with me will quickly evaporate.
I seem to remember the last time you went ranting on here never to return to this board, that you called all Jacks on here Tossers! Why don't you stick to your word and piss off like you stated you would, your nothing but a poisoned little dwarf, Norway has the measure of you and so do I, you will use any opportunity to serve your agenda, as you have done on this thread. You ruined Norway's thread yesterday, and your like a spoilt brat who can't get his way, why don't you piss off up to Liverpool with Brenda sunshine! ......................
I'm sorry Phil, but you're just as bad. You both need to take a time out, sit on the naughty step and think about what you've done. None of us want to wade through the numerous nasty posts you have both been making at each other for the last two days. Can you please resolve your differences over PM and let the rest of us discuss things without every thread turning into a slanging match between you two?
Ivor as always a great post, though I've not got the patience at the moment to outline as you so admirably and comprehensively have put it, but it's spot on, many thanks for that, and I sincerely hope that all jacks read that, because that is the honest truth, and how I see it too!...................
Surely you mean your not the proposition you were a few decades ago? Your the biggest opportunity for the foreseeable future in British football!!!!! Are you completely mental, your a sinking ship and ain't gonna see the champions league for a very long time. You say this in the same statement about not all Liverpool fans have inflated opinions of their club. BTW, I'm a Cardiff fan so don't care about Brendan Rogers but had a laugh at how patronising this post was and also how completely deluded Liverpool fans are.
Whatever.. Phill, I've already asked you to PM me if you want to continue this nonsense. It's unfair to others. I'll just as happily call you a dickwad privately As for "you called all Jacks on here Tossers" No. I called a select few, and yes, you were one.
Thanks CityAce, that's how I read it too, and so did PGFWhite, but dickhead aussiejerk, just trying to be clever, but never succeeds!..............
