two to put up today and at both ends of the scale with respect to price. Newmarket 1.40 Califante 40-1 EW I put this horse up a week or so ago only for it to be a non runner. I feel she ran very well at Royal Ascot for a long way indicating the dropping back a furlong will suit. I think she may be able to steal a place and should others not put their best hoof forward even win the thing at a price that represents huge each way value. 2.10 Rizeena 11-8 This horse is class and I will be amazed if anything in this race gets near it. Although it's a short price I consider it better value than the above selection Califante. Good luck all.
On July 7th 1976 Joe Mercer riding for owner Jakie Astor and trainer Dick Hern rode the colt So Sharp (by So Blessed out of Cutle by St Crespin out of Cutter) to win the 10 furlongs Duke of Cambridge Handicap at Newmarket. It was the first leg of a Mercer treble that day as he later won the July Stakes aboard Dick Hollingsworth's Sky Ship (by Roan Rocket out of Bedeni by Parthia out of Cutter), again trained by Hern, and finally the Duchess of Montrose Stakes aboard the Ernest Collingwood trained Fighting Lady. That handicap was well established. Having a handicap like that changed to the Duchess of Cambridge would have been OK, but the Newmarket toadys shouldn't have changed the name of the Cherry Hinton Stakes.
I can only add agreement to Bustino / SBC views on this disgraceful pillage of a fabulous race name (est 1947) ... how does changing the name of an established race move racing one iota forward ... answer is it does not ... Another puerile example of royal sycophancy gone mad ... I feel a rant coming on .... I'll stop here before I get a knock on the front door ...
Who in the name of arse is the Duchess of Cambridge anyway? Stepping up in trip, with a penalty to carry, the favourite warrants a small place lay.
Afternoon chaps A telly three for me today as I won't be around for the 3-15 1-40 Dream Wild 2-10 Queen Catrine (glad that Stick agrees - although as he posted first that makes me a sponge I suppose!) 2-40 Sky Lantern all day long. I looked at the last televised race and couldn't decide between Moviesta, Robot Boy and Equity Risk, so it's probably wise to give it a miss anyway At York Rosdhu Queen looks home and hosed. She was entered in the July Cup so this is infinitely easier. Good luck all
Gone for a small Yankee on the TV races... 1:40 - Nardin 11/2 2:10 - Bye Bye Birdie 4/1 2:40 - Elusive Kate 9/4 3:15 - Heavens Guest 8/1 Good luck all!!
This Bold Spirit is so well bred it's not true. Out of a sister to Danehill's dam you can't get much better. Too much Native Dancer for my liking on the dam's side.
Evens on Sky Lantern is a massive price imo. I've taken a punt that Fig Roll can reverse form on Rizeena with Hughsie on board and the extra furlong and 3lbs
Hmmm anyone pick that? Anyone? EDIT: My apologies just seen Buddy's post. Well done, great shout, won well
Nice win for an unfashionable stable. AOB trained it would have been single figure. Emphatic, if a tad sweaty
buddy. Great shout on Lucky Kristale. Hope you get another to go with it! Place money for mine only but better than a complete loser
