tomorrow was always a must win, it's pompey! lose to them and I have a feeling the effect on the rest of our season would be catastrophic.
Disappointing as Leeds held out for so long. Had a reading and west ham win today so hopefully I can still get one wrong! Jusmt have to win tomorrow to go top again. Control the controllables!
As I said elsewhere: Last Easter, I believe Huddersfield jumped in front of us on Good Friday. Panic not Saints fans. We just have to take care of our own business.
I believe you're right! But there was 9 or 10 games left as the season finished in May last year. However, as St Godders said somewhere else, at 1pm tomorrow we will be top again as soon as the game kicks off. We need to control the controllables, BUT Markus if you're listening (of course you are!), could you help West Ham drop a few points?!
Stop it with this "control the controllables" nonsense We're the supporters, we don't control anything!
West Ham's Twitter seems to indicates a 4-3-3, but that's what Allardyce calls his 4-5-1 formation. The line-up is: Green; Demel, Tomkins, Reid, McCartney; Noble, O'Neil, Nolan; Vaz Te, Taylor, Maynard.
The important thing is what we do. If we win tomorrow, West Ham have one fewer games to get the required points even if they win this afternoon. At the moment they need to make up 7 points on us from 6 games. If both teams win, they still have to make up 7 points on us from only 5 games. This weekend could be a decider for auto spot...lets hope we don't mess up.
IF we win we go top IF we draw we go top IF we lose we don't There you go, three outcomes. As Nigel said, it is a 6 game season. We started the season with a 2 point head start over Reading and a 6 point head start over West Ham. IF West Ham win the next two and we lose, they are level. If they then do better than us in the next game they go above us. BUT in the 6 game season, if we win 4 we go up automatically. IF we win 3 we probably will go up IF we win 2, it is unlikely, but may happen IF we win 1 or none, it is unlikely, but may happen. So there you go. We can go up, no 'IFs' and 'BUTs'!!!!
Please stop posting al these permutations they leave me thoroughly confused with my head spinning. One game at a time is all I can take at the moment or I start to get a very nervous shaking feeling.
Very nice and clear, but I prefer my summary, which is... Saints need 12 points from the remaining 18 to guarantee promotion. WHU can equal us but they have to win every single game left in the season, starting with today at Barnsley, but their goal difference almost certainly wouldn't be good enough. So, just tick off the points required. We need 3 points tomorrow, then we'll need another 9.
As the season has come to it's climax I've increasingly looked at the results of others, namely Reading's and West Ham's. If this mini-league of six games occurred at an earlier point in the season, I'm sure I'd have been purely focused on tending to our own garden. I feel confident that we will continue our season-long form and extrapolated, we will get the points we need to secure promotion. We deserve to win this league and should be confident in doing so.
Don't complicate things for yourself. Take one game at a time. Oops, sorry. I'm doing an Adkins. We'll have a reappraisal this evening.
