Shes always had a ton of ability but the Frankel is in her with that pulling, if she learns to settle she will be top class.
Snow Lantern defied the weakness in the betting to score. I was surprised Alcohol Free was ridden from the front today and she didn't last home. Mother Earth ran really well for such an exposed sort. Pretty Gorgeous held every chance but for the third race in a row she weakened quite markedly in the closing stages. She looks to have left her form back in 2020. Primo Bacio ran on well but from too far back and Lady Bowthorpe came with a good rattle to finish 4th. Saffron Beach failed to run to her Guineas form and I always have a bad feeling with horses mucked about trying 12F and then coming straight back by half a mile. Well done any Snow Lantern backers, perhaps the ghost of Sky Lantern getting beaten in the race has finally been exorcised.
Well done to those that stayed loyal to Snow Lantern. On the better ground she got revenge on Alcohol Free and the Guineas winner Mother Earth, but they all finished together. Kieran Shoemark gave Lady Bowthorpe too much to do after waiting for a gap and then switching to the outside, she flew home to only be beaten a length. I am sure the owners will be delighted that Snow Lantern has won the race that her Guineas winning mother was denied by blind stewards, who banned the winning jockey for careless riding but thought it did not affect the result. Hopefully she will go on from here and prove to be the top mile filly of her generation as there is not a lot of competition.
Nice debut from the 2YO Zelda over at Saint Cloud today. Jean-Claude Rouget trains the daughter of Zelzal and he also trained the sire. Zelda was headstrong in the early stages but was settled at the back eventually. Coming into the closing stages Zelda was making headway but looked to have a lot on to catch the front runner. Not only did she catch up, she went past to score by three and a half lengths as the front running colt started to tire but he held on for second. With the fillies allowance and Coralie Pacaut claiming 3 lbs, she was getting 7 lbs from the mainly colt field but still a taking performance. The only other filly us the field was last and this looks a useful sort for Jean-Claude Rouget, who is on an incredible 9/22 or 41% strike rate at the moment. https://t.attheraces.com/atrplayer-popup/VOD/1214427?showResult=yes The Legend Of Zelda would no doubt be a future headline if she went on to win something of note. I left a Link to the race.
Her 3rd dam is a Slip Anchor half-sister to Petoski. Her greatdam's sire Oasis Dream was a sprinter, but has sired many who stayed including Midday. The damsire Pivotal gets horses at all distances including an Oaks winner. I see nothing in Sandrine's family that should stop her from getting 8f, especially when you take the way she runs. Some horses are just naturally fast and never run over further. I was at Goodwood the day Starlit Sands won and being by Oasis Dream out of a Slip Anchor mare you had to say she was surprisingly fast. With a pedigree like that how could she be suited by 5f at Goodwood? But she was. Then again Bride Elect won the Queen Mary and no further yet became the dam of a number of stayers including the Leger winner Hethersett.
