At times I felt only admiration for him. One September day at Ascot the rain was coming in almost horizontal yet there he was doing his stuff in the Silver Ring betting ring and jousting with all the punters: a real trooper. He stuck out there for all 6 races.
In the '70s he was an excellent Investigative journalist. When he was his pompous self he was a pratt at times.

didnt run too badly, for one so inexperienced, mate.but ELARQAM is a real tough cookie,as he showed once again there.so,happy days..

from a tactical point of view, not easy to work this race out,as most of these like to race prominently, also my choice,RIVER OF INTRIGUE,so i hope,he gets an uncontested lead.has very solid form, and though on a career high mark today, the claim of brodie hampson is a big help, and he has a more than decent shout here..

trappy,as theres not much form to go on,but a tentative vote goes to ECHO DU LARGE,who ran well up to a point last time out, also well backed that day,and the form is beginning to work out well,so definitely one of the likelier ones.

Rip Big Mac he had a personality, something lacking in a lot of presenters these days. Tipped Earth Summit as a market mover in the Grand National as a "get on get on" 25/1 taken won @7/1. As I recall. Cheers big fella

R.I.P Big Mac, the last of the colourful characters in racing. He was also a very good investigative journalist, exposing corruption in dog racing and horse racing, won a couple of awards as well. Thoughts with Booby.

There doesnt seem to be that many characters left in sport, they all look like clones these days especially in Football. Mostly about image and fame.
