Hello, everyone. Must admit there is one out tomorrow, from the county, who has attracted my attention. No inside information, whatsoever, but he does stand out somewhat at Wolverhampton. The geldings name is RIVER GLASS and he runs in the14 furlong handicap (6.45). Furthermore he’s owned by dear old Henry Ponsonby so is sure to be popular on the forum.
River Glass didn’t see the racecourse until the August of his 3YO season and in his sole outing for Charlie Hills was a well beaten 4th of 4 at Newmarket – although he had obviously been showing something at home as he went off at just 100/30. He was then moved to the county (River Glass not Charlie Hills) and has subsequently had 2 runs for Alan King in well above maidens, albeit without much success, being beaten 54 and 55 lengths respectively. Because of this though River Glass, on his handicap bow, gets into this lowly contest on a basement perch of 45. In my opinion the fact that connections are sticking with the level rather than throwing the gelding over hurdles indicates that they think River Glass more than capable of inflicting a good deal of damage off this mark. Furthermore, the step up to 14 furlongs should be of great benefit given that his siblings include a 2 mile hurdle winner. The Alan King stable are also in fine form with 6 winners since 10 September.
Breeding wise River Glass has much to boast about. His dam was a winner, from just 2 outings, and is a half-sister to St Leger and Breeders Cup hero, Conduit. Whilst his half-brother, Northside Prince, obliged 4 times and had a peak rating of 90 (which is exactly double what River Glass runs off of the morrow!). The star of the immediate family though must be the aforementioned winning hurdler who is River Glass’ half-brother – namely My Tent or Yours, I say, My Tent or Yours. In the NH sphere he’s won 8 times, finished 2nd in a Champion Hurdle and is rated 168.
I’m really keen to see the odds that River Glass opens at latter on (Sporting Life are forecasting 14/1 at the time of writing) as I believe he’s a fascinating runner tomorrow evening on his handicap debut.
Good luck all.
