A PD day means my planned trip to Cheltenham could not go ahead today. That and the fact that the misses works at the only local school whose Headteacher decided that she would not have a PD day at her school . The card looks on the good side of decent and I was particularly looking forward to see how Tom Lacey's Sebastapol fairs in the maiden hurdle. From a betting perspective I'm siding with a couple of lively ew outsiders in the last 2 races. Goohar @ 25/1 in the Amateur riders chase and Mad Jack Myton @ 20/1 in the lucky last. Goohar looks weighted to run well and has run well at HQ previously. Similar comments apply to MJM. Ew singles and an ew double. Good luck all.
Yeah it's a negative although he's run OK after a break before. Daly's red hot form at present swung it for me.
Bets i'm not sponging today done ew lucky 31 2:35 Cheltenham - Sister Sibyl 9/1 2:50 Newbury - Infanta Isabella 10/1 3:35 Doncaster - Get Knotted 8/1 4:35 Newbury - Madridinho 14/1 5:10 Newbury - Becca Campbell 11/1 Best of luck with your betting today ladies and gents (and seeing as it's 2018 in a PC mad world I should say best of luck to all the he-she's, she-shes, who-shes, what-shes, no-shes, gender neutral and gender fluid out there)
The Lieutenant had 8 horses entered at the meet today but has only ordained that one turn up! He’s the same number currently entered for tomorrow so will be interesting to see how many, like the man from Del Monte, he says ‘yes’ to. The Cheltenham ground will certainly have less ‘juice’ in it than many would have expected or is the norm for this time of year.
Just realised that I’ve put 2 up today. Don’t think I’ve done that on the old forum since the internet was invented! But what will happen?!? Will it result in a glorious double or a pair of also-rans?!? I think we all know the answer to that don’t we regular readers. Looking at the market, currently, re the pair. The price on Herculean seems fair (13/8) so I have indeed deployed Major Maximum and he’s marched off to secure me the best odds. Royal King is starting to drift a tad (33’s in a place although still 22/1 in another) but the fact that he held his ground for so long at the 25 and 28 quotes maybe indicates there is hope. But after a 150/1 shot won a 5 runner heat at Chelmsford last night I would suggest that the market is the last thing we listen to, team!
Again Nicky ‘Enders decimates his Cheltenham squad this time, re tomorrow, it’s 8 down to 2. Lovely to see such a big field though in the ‘Pertemps Qualifier’. More plots than an Agatha Christie novel and all that…
hi fellas! cheltenham,2 00: GO ANOTHER ONE has shot up the ratings, but the way he won last time out, suggests, there could be even more in the locker, and he beat some decent sorts at kelso.so,definite shout today..
Just a quick 3 from Cheltenham today... 3:10 - And The New 4:55 - Another Frontier 5:30 - Storm Rising Good luck to all who play on today...
20 declared in the Pertemps but which 5 will not run, just to scupper e/w pundits out for a bit of thievery? For those of us who remember Monet's Garden chinning Kauto Star a few year's ago, this Sunday's renewal of the Old Roan Chase looks below par. Perhaps Flying Angel, back at Aintree on decent ground, can repeat his Grade 1 Manifesto Novices Chase performance and take this valuable handicap off a mark of 145. Usually goes well on seasonal debut (won in 2015 and 2016, faced an impossible task in an Intermediate Chase last year) and the ground should suit him perfectly. 8/1 mark currently with Sky Bet.
cheltenham,2 35: most of these have already had a very busy summer, but not so CAID DU LIN,who is still a relatively fresh horse this season, and especially on his chase debut, which he won well enough,he jumped like a buck then.wasnt disgraced in second next time out,so i am a bit surprised,he doesnt sit closer to the top in the market, but nice e w shout..
From the betting it looks like ol boy Court Minstrel will be on a going day today. Personally I can't be having him which means he'll almost certainly win. The same applies to Man of Plenty in the last. Backed him so many times last year at decent odds, he'd come there with a chance but he always found at least one too good.
well, thats my view too.and hes too well handicapped(court minstrel),to leave him out.so,if hes back to that 2017 silver trophy form(where he beat a certain sam spinner..),has a major shout today,at least e w..
Usual wealth warning for information received: Newbury 4:00 – KEEPER’S CHOICE (each-way) Well beaten last time in a Class 3 event at HQ. Won the time before in similar event to today at Sandown, but smaller field and held up in rear – a tactic that might not be so clever here with 19 opponents. More bad news – this was the yard’s last winner six weeks ago!
cheltenham,3 45: lil rockerfeller made a pleasing chasing debut last time out,and looks solid enough, but ive the gut feeling, that the mare TREACLE TART could run a massive race today.she won in good style at worcester last time out,and gets a invaluable allowance today,so she might surprise a few here..
As I said on the daily thread earlier in the week, I thought Big Kitten was interesting against Herculean, as a similarly profiled horse who had also bumped into an opponent who went on to much better things ie Gronkowski, the Belmont Stakes runner up. Herculean opened at 11/8 for today's 4.45 Doncaster but has been weak out to 15/8. Big Kitten is also weak, drifting to 7/1 but at those odds you can play for a smaller stake in a tricky little race. Gosden's Jamih, not to be confused with the similarly named Varian horse Jamil, is another returning late in the season after a break of more than4 months and he is also tipped in places. In the end I went with the more solid, if unspectacular, form of Rise Hall, who didn't show much before bolting up in an awful looking race at Salisbury. It was his next race when a sound third in a York Handicap of the same grade as today that makes him look likely to run his race again here. Rise Hall was held up that day and then couldn't get a clear run when he was closing to challenge. He looked a bit unlucky that day and York can be a hard track to make up late ground on. The Meade colt is very unexposed at this sort of trip and at 5/1 I thought he was sure to be involved today. 4.45 Doncaster Rise Hall 5/1 ( Fairly solid from 6/1 and 11/2 early doors)
very much so.will be interesting, where she goes next.could be a lot more to come from her.. cheltenham,4 20: quite a few with definite potential here, not least BANG ON FRANKIE,who was twice in his short career placed to top bumper horse western ryder, every time running with credit.the only negative is the long absence, but if hes fit to go today, wont be too far away..
well, really tough work today. cheltenham,4 55: many options here, but ANOTHER FRONTIER did the job well last time out at uttoxeter, and though hes 6 lbr higher in a stronger race, should go well here..
