Good evening all
excited about the hurdling debut of RANJAAN in the 1.00 at Newbury. He will probably be a short price but I am willing to take evens or bigger so hopefully he will not open up at something stupid like 1/2. He was a fair performer on the flat for Mikel Delzangles/Aga Khan winning twice from 5 starts. Highclere have splashed out a whopping £200,000 for this performer and I expect him to line up in the Triumph hurdle come March. Corals are a stand out 16/1 and this one is my early fancy for the race so I have snapped up some of that tonight.
2.10 Newbury SOLLIM 3/1 (BOG) & PRINCE BUSTER 20/1 E.W (BOG)
A good punting race this and I feel Sollim is fair value at around the 3/1 mark. He was a useful sort in France when trained by Guillaume Macaire and whilst he is yet to shine for Paul Nicholls he makes his chase debut tomorrow and has the tonuge tie on for the first time which could make a difference. A mark of 125 is not beyond him in my opinion and he is well off at the weights as he gets a handy 4yo allowance.
Prince Buster is the other one I am interested in at the prices, he is a stand out 20/1 shot at the moment and could still be nicely treated off a mark of 125. He was previously trained by Alan King and showed lots of promise in all 3 starts. On his debut he finished 2nd at odds of 33-1 behind Belvano - with Tocca Ferro (has won listed off 134) 3rd, Cois Farraig (128) 4th and Black Jack Blues (150 at his best) 5th. Now I am aware those horses have obviously improved with racing but that was a solid start to his racing career and whilst he followed that up with a slightly disappointing 5th at Huntingdon having been sent off 2/1 fav he proved his debut effort was no fluke when running a brilliant 3rd at Ascot with Lush Life the winner (now rated 142) and Menorah (162 rated hurdler) 2nd. Prince Buster was only beaten 9 3/4 lengths that day and pulled 10 lengths clear of the 4th Sophies Trophy (129 at her best). He makes his chasing debut after a 643 day absence but is very lightly raced for an 8yo and whilst he has obviously had his problems if he has retained his ability and his rookie trainer has him ready to go I expect a massive run
2.45 Newbury SIVOLE DE SIVOLA 7/1 (BOG)
I don't usually like betting in these Pertemps qualifiers but Sivola De Sivola is a solid performer and I am hopeful he will be trying tomorrow. He is a progressive sort and ran a fine race when 5th in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last time out. He should relish this step up in distance and I will be disappointed if I don't get a good run for my money tomorrow.
