Morning from the States! Weather forecast for where i am is thunderstorms so I'm bound to be struck by lightning!
Your good ol' pal Joe brings you stories of history, logic and smartassery. The day of Friday has been considered unlucky for many centuries now, which is weird because it is now known for bringing happiness and joy after a hard week's work. The earliest mention of Friday being unlucky (which I am aware of) is in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, written way back in the 14th Century. Isn't that interesting, kids? The number 13 has long been considered to be irregular, because it comes after the number 12, which has been considered the number of completeness (12 gods of Olympus, 12 apostles, etc.) The superstition may have arisen, according to Wikipedia, from either the Last Supper or a Norse myth, which holds that having 13 people seated at a table will result in a death in one of the diners. I'm guessing this is the Universe being a little OCD and wanting them to be a perfect 12. Cool, huh? Friday and the number 13 weren't known to be combined until as late as the 19th Century, when some dude called Gioachino Rossini died on a Friday 13th. It was written in his 1869 biography that "He was surrounded to the last by admiring friends; and if it be true that, like so many Italians, he regarded Fridays as an unlucky day and thirteen as an unlucky number, it is remarkable that one Friday 13th of November he died." Remarkable, huh kids? The superstition of Friday 13th didn't become a common thing until Thomas W. Lawson's popular 1907 novel "Friday, the Thirteenth". Dan Brown's novel "The Da Vinci Code", which we all know to be super logical and reliable, makes a connection between Friday 13th and the Knights Templar or some ****. In addition, calendars, numbers and time itself are abstract, man-made concepts which have no real universal significance. Thanks for listening kids, now **** off.
Currently, my favourite number is 10. Why? Because that's how many players Portsmouth have. http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/squad/first-team.aspx
Not on the site, the official site has 10 players. Two of which are youngsters, but they're still in the first team squad.
Pompey's administrator said on Sky this morning that they had eight but now have seven...someone else must have left recently.
How long until they just start signing random people off the street? I'll play for them for just £1k per week. There's an offer they can't afford to refuse.
