I disagree. I think it was the ground. Is Shammick Boy going to handle this ground at Chepstow? It's quite hard work there today. I'm not backing anything in that race but just thought i'd flag it up as a concern.
With all due respect Pops you are talking balicks. Last time out it was very unlucky to get beat and I think it WON three times for us last year.
afternoon folks,TFIF.Going to have a punt on an across the card treble on long lunch/regal silk/akasaka to score.Interesting draw today in the champions league with barca and madrid avoiding each other. My prediciton is madrid will beat dortmund over the two legs and bayern will put barca to the sword who dont really look like the barca team of two years ago and i think they have been sussed out.I'll take madrid to knick the final by a goal
In my view he just wasn't as well handicapped as people thought, and the only reason it went off favourite was down to the McCoy factor. This was a much tougher race than the one he was 2nd in
He should be grand. It was soft to heavy in places when just touched off by Billy Twiford. He'll need to stay 2m4f well which is the only concern I'd have.
I tipped up and backed Global Flyer lto when he was quite heavily gambled but finished fourth. He runs off even lower today and has a few pound swing with the winner that day and todays favourite. Each way at 8/1 seems fair. He will eventually win off this kind of mark.
Shammick Boy is getting one of those rides where the jockey looks like a genius or a fool at the end of the race.
Was an odd ride from Jack Doyle alright. I don't think he stayed in the ground having travelled so wide throughout though. He'll be winning again soon back on a sound surface
FFS Fourth Good luck this weekend lads. I've had a brief look and it all looks decidedly average to me and i can't be bothered with it. Alpinist in the Ballysax is the one I will back.
Stick (or anyone else for that matter) have an opinion on Shammick Boy's performance/Jack Doyle's ride. Can't really work it out myself and would appreciate another set of eyes.
Charted a wide course as they were looking for better ground in my opinion. Groing looked decidedly tacky and didnt suit him one bit. he may get eased a few pounds for that which will put him on a very tasty mark.
I've just had a look ROTO and I think he ran ok. I can see what you mean about him travelling a little wide at times but I guess that was looking for better ground. I am never convinced that it's a wise thing to do as If it was that much better surely everyone would take that path, when doing that the jock is taking a view that he is a little wiser than everyone else in the race, something that's unlikely to be true in most cases, (Notnowcato's eclipse excepted). Jockeys are in my opinion famous for out thinking themselves far more than they do other jockeys, Spencer does it now and again and Graham Gibbons did a great job earlier in the week on one of his mounts. Shammick Boy did get 5th when 4th in the betting and so I guess ran to pretty much expectation, he did travel well but no better than the winner or third and on this ground it's often the case that horses can go out quickly. My own view is that the winner was racing at the lower end of his ability with regard grade and could easily hold his own in a higher grade, having won at level 2 already this season, and so was a worthy favourite today, I do think Shammick Boy would be better on better ground but it's possible to say that with most as it was desperate out there today. I would think he would be worth having another try with at the same level if a similar price as he clearly is still on a workable mark even if not having anything in hand to speak of. As a last comment I think I would have been aggrieved if having backed the third as was travelling beautifully on the bridle and looked to be coming to win when squashed between the first two. I think that the loss of momentum on that ground added to the intimidation robbed him of a winning chance.
A little play on Petersboden in the next at Wolverhampton for me in the next 7-1 more than reasonable.
not a tip to back, but a interesting horse, north dakota runs in the 6:45 dundalk. it 'came second' in the curragh gallop to camelot with battle of marengo 3rd. be interesting to see how good this beast is
