The 3.05 Sandown is pretty open but recent winning form is very thin on the ground. Magical Wish comes here with two seconds and a win in his last three starts and he looks as if he will run his race and be thereabouts at least. His head second last time came on soft ground and Cardsharp was third that day and is 5 lbs better off for a length and a half, so has a clear chance of reversing form on the revised marks but he's not been the most consistent horse and I find the trainer Mark Johnston to be inconsistent as well. On good ground today I will go with Magical Wish to confirm form on the better going this time. His last three RPRs of 101, 102 and 104 are of admirable consistency and in the context of today's race he looks likely to run to something similar and be involved.
3.05 Sandown Magical Wish 4/1
The Flying Childers sees Sacred all the rage. Plenty have tipped her up and she is the highest rated in the race, so hardly a Sherlock Holmes job to have made that deduction and not really necessary to delve into the sectional timings for evidence. 11/8 is pretty skinny and after having opposed her last time over 6F and felt she was a bad favourite for the 1000 Guineas coming into that race, even my post race observation that she needed to be dropped back to 5F cannot allow me to back her despite that change of trip having been made.
I was on Steel Bull last time and he disappointed in 7th place but he banged his head in the stalls that day breaking two teeth and bursting his lip, so that won't have been ideal. Looking back at his Molecomb win doesn't read that great though and runner up Ben Macdui was quite disappointing next time out.
I fancied Mohawk King for the Sirenia but they pulled him out of that one late on and the observation was that the horse went off too fast in the Gimcrack and didn't last home, so they felt 5F might suit better. Mohawk King had beaten Minzaal on debut and he surely has scope for more yet and at a price I felt it worth chancing the Hannon colt, with the trainer having a few nice sorts this season already. 10/1 for Hannon/Dettori looked too big to me.
