West Yorks - North of Leeds but quite safe.
I am very sad to tell you that Frenchie passed away in his sleep a few days ago
I have just heard from his wife Betty. I was very fortunate to speak with him a few days before but he didn't tell me how ill he was.

The funeral has taken place

Frenchie, his real name was John French, was a great stalwart on these boards
He live about an hour from me in Central France and we had had some meet ups and meals together over the past few years

I will post more information when I hear and also if you want I will pass anyone's wishes on to Betty

Oh no. Please pass on my condolences.

I had the pleasure of his company at West Brom a few years ago, a 2-2 draw snatched at the end with Gomes causing mayhem and Richarlison nipping in in front of him to equalise. Limbs and hugs were shared.
If I recall, I met you and Hackney all too briefly that day - Hackney had a stinking cold and I kept a distance!
Always hoped to see Frenchie again in Blighty as he has family not too far from me in Leafy Bucks, alas not to be.

Sad news indeed. I shall raise a glass of something appropriate later, a fine red, methinks!

Desperately sorry to hear this. Please pass on our condolences to Betty. What a lovely man he was.

Thanks too ..just half way through france today. Resting my broken left foot as I drive with the right one. Taking turns with mme

A very sad day indeed Yorkie. I never met him but wished that I had and so passing my condolences doesn't mean much - just say they're from an online friend. We will all miss him on here. Many thanks for posting this on here Yorkie - not easy I know.

Like most on this board, you feel you know them even if you have never met them and I know OFH will be missed by everyone here.
A terrible sad day for his wife and family, please pass on my condolences as another online friend.
He loved France and we enjoyed his anecdotes on his village life there and veg plot. I hope he is enjoying a glass of French red wine somewhere.

Such sad news!
I never met him, but I did share a few PM’s with him - he seemed like a gent

I think it might be nice for his wife Betty to know how well thought of he was by his online friends

ps is someone able to contact the club and get his name/picture up on the scoreboard as they have a nice feature at halftime remembering those supporters that have passed - of course with permission from Betty

This forum has lost several well-known members since I joined. Leo decided to stop posting, while sadly Brian, Canary Dave and oldfrenchhorn have passed away. I have never met any of them because I do not live in France nor the United Kingdom, but it is a small forum (compared with other forums) so their deaths feel like the loss of friends. Please pass on my sincere condolences to Betty and oldfrenchhorn's family, although they will not know who I am.

Would be great if someone could do that and maybe take a photo which we can send to Betty. ...
Not me I am afraid ..on my butt in France with a broken foot

We would need a picture of OFH to send to that club along with name and year of Birth

I am happy to take a snap of the scoreboard and then send it to whoever can pass it onto Betty

like I said, i sadly never met OFH, so would need someone to help me with the picture of him and data

What a fine collection of tributes-and well earned.
C'mon Mr Pozzo, lets have recognition for such a good long standing ,perhaps literally in the 'Shingle Days' , supporter

I have asked Betty for a good photo and his date of birth. He has a profile photo on his FB page but I can't download it on my phone seemingly.
