Because being tall as a CB is in no way beneficial. Infact, all our CB's SHOULD be 5'5''!

I don't think all of them need to be that size.

    Just 2 or 3.

While I agree that it isn't the reason you should buy a CB, just because he is tall, but as a team we actually have very few tall players. Other than our CBs, Russ and Fer is there anyone you'd say is tall? certainly our lack of ability in the air has shown this season with Bennett's goal being the first scored from an indirect set piece.

Snodgrass is 6' which I think is big for a winger, Wolfswinkle is 6'1 plus, Elmander also 6'2, Johnson is 6'.

We are hardly a short side.

Johnson is the one people always mistake. He's actually only 5'10", but his width makes up for it!

We're not small, but usually we're the smaller side on the squawka stats because the Prem is generally a league for tall players.

Just under, but like Suarez his style of running and hunch make him look shorter.

I'd forgotten about Elmander to be honest and I thought I included Ricky but must have missed him. Didn't realise Snoddy was that tall but seen as he is the one usually crossing the ball it doesn't really help in that respect.

I can't help but feel it was the Italian press going frothy-mouthed at just a simple enquiry from us (like the OTT reaction to Quags in the summer).

I wonder whether we will stop doing business in Italy because we know how much McNally hates early release of transfer rumours and it seems pretty clear that Italian clubs are leakier than sieves when it comes to confidential info.

Quite possibly. The Italian press are about as trigger-happy regarding transfer rumours as most of the English equivalent. And good point about the leaky nature of Italian clubs.

Seemed (and still seems) to me to be far more realistic than the Quags rumours though.

    Quick update on Lazio's targets:
It sounds as if they're not so keen on Senderos now, and are instead looking towards Genoa's full-back Luca Antonelli.

Still difficult to say whether any of this would affect a potential move for Ciani though.

Ciani remained on the bench for Lazio's 1-1 draw with Juventus on Saturday.

Ciani still hasn't played a full 90mins in Serie A since 2nd December.

    Chris Hughton yesterday

“We are at the stage now where I am sure you are going to tell me quite a few names.

“What we have done is to try to make ourselves as active and busy as possible, and amongst that there will always be names which are bounded about.

“The large majority we always find have no substance and some will be because of agents asking questions or names that have been put to us.

“We can only do what is best to do, and that is to let you know when anything is fact.

“It (Steven Taylor) is another one, probably because of my association (with Newcastle), and that one (Ciani), no, again it would be the rumour mill going around.

“We do make phone calls and do make enquiries to see if players are going to be available or not and amongst that there is always going to be some speculation, but there are certainly no facts.

“We are looking for players who will improve the squad and we would definitely like to add to it.

“(If there is) any way we can improve what we have this week, then we are working very hard to be able to do that.”
